USF ME-MSN Fall 2021

Updated:   Published

Hi, starting a forum for the University of San Francisco Masters Entry- Masters Of Science in Nursing for the 2021 Fall Cohort. Join the chat, let us know if you've applied, and offer updates.

This is my first time applying to the program, the deadline was January 15th. I will also be applying to Samuel Merritt's ABSN in April, I'm hoping to have heard back from USF by then and not need to apply at all *fingers crossed* . From past forums, the response is usually given around week 10, so that put's it at the last week of March.

@Maryam Kakar if you don’t mind me asking, what were your stats?

My car drinks a lot of gas (I wish I had a hybrid or electric car). Wow, I had no clue we needed to take some courses in-person. I actually was never planning to attend this program and had my heart set for CSUN because I live 5 minutes away, but I feel like schools nowadays like selecting students from far for the money. Yeah, the cheapest place I found was $900 w/ no amenities.

I have no clue why we have to pay for the background checks, medical document manager etc. it seems like w/ the amount of money we are spending to attend the school they should at least waive those fees for us (probably unemployed me talking). I guess that’s the thing about being passionate about something… you always need to sacrifice something (either wait 3 years to go to community college, be waitlisted and don’t hear back from a ABSN program or get accepted into a pricy ME-MSN program).

Are you planning to continue working while doing the program because that would be tricky?

Have you paid for your seat yet? (I wasn’t expecting that either; wish they told us of this when we were applying) We should start budgeting the cost of scrubs, shoes, and liability LOL. Do you have an idea how much books will cost?

Yeah me too. I intended to apply to the CSUN ABSN program but you know how getting into a nursing program can be competitive. I was also unaware of all the requirements especially the one we had to pay for. Yes I paid for the seat already. Did you not yet? Are you through with the health requirements?

I do plan to continue working God help me. I do pray I can balance both.

I have no idea about the costof books. That a whole other budget too.  Like you said we all got to make sacrifices, especially for what you are passionate about .the fact that we got accepted is a blessing on its own I tell you.

Hi y'all! Congratulations to those accepted and good luck to those on the waitlist. I am working on the health requirements and trying to figure out work/school balance as well. I am hoping to continue working.

Hi Eib

Congratulations to you too!. I hope to continue working as well and be able to find balance. I should assume that the program may have being designed for individuals who are working as well.

No worries! I have a 2.9 undergrad GPA, 3.83 grad school GPA, and 3.8 prerequisite GPA. I did 430 hours of clinical volunteer experience; no CNA, LVN, medical assistant or EMT certificates.

Hi Esther, yeah if we all stick together, we shall make it out alive with a degree in hand. Lord help us and make everything fall into place. Yeah, CSUN is very competitive, and so are all the other nursing programs. I am glad we got accepted to USF (just wished they were closer to me or had dorming /housing accommodations) since it is ranked I think #5 or #6 for their nursing school.

I am certain you can manage both! on the USF video many students said they were working while doing the program. The only semesters it might be tough would be the first 2 semesters since we have the most difficult classes then, but after that it will be a breeze (fingers crossed). I am also planning to find work nearby campus to reduce the amount of loans I take out (may rely solely on loans since IDK if we get financial aid grants).

I just paid for it and will be doing the titers and background check soon. I hate how close to the deadline we were sent everything. August 1st is not enough time to process the excitement and get everything complete. Did you get your CPR certification? I need to do that again because it just expired.

Is anyone planning to live near campus and needs a roommate? Or does anyone know about housing arrangements for the OC campus? I live in the San Fernando Valley area and my commute would be roughly 150 miles both ways. I am also on a tight budget right now.

Yup. You are right! We stick together and accomplish this by God's grace with the Lord anything is possible.

Yes,getting a job close to school will be nice. I probably may be on the look out for another job too that will require that I work few number of days maybe like three days a week. Cos the support is needed to be so as not to take out so much loans. I think financial aid can be provided. About scholarships? Have you looked into any?. I came across a website called tuitionfreescholarahips (tfs). There seems to be some scholarships. I intend to look at it this weekend and this week.

I had the CPR done already. I may need to renew too but not at the moment. Did you find where to do CPR? I agree August 1st is pretty much a close deadline ti turn everything in except the influenza vaccine which is due October 1st as the new seasonal vaccine will be administered beginning in  August as mentioned by my pcp.

Yup! While making sure not to miss any classes, clinical's and have sleep. It is a tough ride ahead, but in the end we will reach where we want to be.

Do you by any chance know how much the cost of uniform and equipment will be?

I wonder if after the first semester we will be able to get all the vaccines from our clinical sites for free. I looked into a couple of scholarships, but I don't get much luck with them anytime I submit any. I am hoping to work with the military so they pay off my tuition and loans LOL (I have yet to find that also).

We should exchange emails or numbers since we may be spamming the forum LOL.

Hahaha. I think we should exchange emails first then we can exchange numbers through email. We are definitely spamming the forum. LOL. Here's my email address:[email protected].

Cost of uniform may be between $50 and $100. As for equipment, I don't know if we will buy from the school or buy it outside. You can keep trying with the scholarships

Can I join this chain? ?

You sure can!

Thanks! Ill email you! I also want to note that if people have their USF emails setup we could use Google hang outs. I also think past cohorts started a FB page if people are open to that.

I am open to a FB page! I actually don’t know much about Google hangouts. Also, do you live around the USF OC campus?
