USF ME-MSN Fall 2021

Updated:   Published

Hi, starting a forum for the University of San Francisco Masters Entry- Masters Of Science in Nursing for the 2021 Fall Cohort. Join the chat, let us know if you've applied, and offer updates.

This is my first time applying to the program, the deadline was January 15th. I will also be applying to Samuel Merritt's ABSN in April, I'm hoping to have heard back from USF by then and not need to apply at all *fingers crossed* . From past forums, the response is usually given around week 10, so that put's it at the last week of March.

Thank you! I am planning to commute to the program, but my folks are fussing about the drive. Are you planning to move near campus or commute?

From my research it looks like 6 semesters (including Summer) with 3 days of lecture and 2 days of clinical. This semester is online due to covid. I hope the program ends up being fully online w/ just in-person clinicals because I really don't want to move out there. Are you going to commute there?

After being on the waitlist?

Yeah, just got off yesterday!

Congratulations to those who got in!! So happy for you all! Good luck to those of us who are still on the waitlist! Positive thoughts ???? For those who got in and also on the waitlist, do you all mind sharing your stats and experiences? Thank you!!

I also plan to commute. I don't intend moving close to campus. Because that would be an added expense too. Do you have any idea about how our schedule will look? Do you work?

Congrats, Maryam! Hopefully we hear soon too! Did you get an email or a call from them that your portal was updated?

Hi Esther. It will be a tough commute because of the 405, 5, and 210 freeways, so we will need to wake up super early and leave campus late. Have you completed the health requirements and background checks? I was not expecting to pay for that also. I don't work right now and got laid off during the pandemic so money is very tight. Low key I am hoping the two years of this program are online w/ onsite clinical, LOL. From my guess, I think we have 18 units plus clinical the first semester and it’s 3 semesters each school year. If you don't mind, we can probably commute together to split on the cost of gas and reduce the miles on our cars? I am still thinking about moving there, but my very tight budget won't allow for it.

Oh my Maryam! You are right about the commute. Yes we can probably split the commute that way, and I drive a prius so it saves some gas. I thought the semester was online too but when I emailed the program advisor, she said classes were in person too. I really wish it was online too. With onsite clinicals at least. Yeah moving there is very tricky due to budget. I'm sorry about your being laid off. I am working though and need to figure out how to make it work.

I am still working on the health requirements. I need to get the titers in and the tb as well. I know right, I had no idea we had to pay for that too as that was not on my budget too LOL. Are you done with all yours?

Hi y'all! Congratulations to those accepted and good luck to those on the waitlist. I am working on the health requirements and trying to figure out work/school balance as well. I am hoping to continue working.

My car drinks a lot of gas (I wish I had a hybrid or electric car). Wow, I had no clue we needed to take some courses in-person. I actually was never planning to attend this program and had my heart set for CSUN because I live 5 minutes away, but I feel like schools nowadays like selecting students from far for the money. Yeah, the cheapest place I found was $900 w/ no amenities.

I have no clue why we have to pay for the background checks, medical document manager etc. it seems like w/ the amount of money we are spending to attend the school they should at least waive those fees for us (probably unemployed me talking). I guess that’s the thing about being passionate about something… you always need to sacrifice something (either wait 3 years to go to community college, be waitlisted and don’t hear back from a ABSN program or get accepted into a pricy ME-MSN program).

Are you planning to continue working while doing the program because that would be tricky?

Have you paid for your seat yet? (I wasn’t expecting that either; wish they told us of this when we were applying) We should start budgeting the cost of scrubs, shoes, and liability LOL. Do you have an idea how much books will cost?
