Hello! Anyone out there applied to usf FNP or any ARNP program at usf for fall 18?? What are your stats? GPA, experience, do you have a BSN? When did you apply. Let's all keep in contact! I'm planning on applying within the next week or so.
Does everyone get an interview or do they also send out denials without being selected for an interview? We were told that if you were selected for an interview then you were a strong candidate.
I believe that we were told that the MSN & dnp programs receive approximately 500+ applicants, they select a various amount for interviews and accept approx 50% of qualified applicants.
I remember them saying that the FNP and ACNP are the most competitive.
I was told this when I went to the info session and met with a graduate advisor while completing my BSN.
I know when I was accepted to the USF Accelerated BSN, they received over 1000 applications for all BSN programs (Upper division/Second Degree/VCare), interviewed approx 300, and only accepted 180. My cohort (second degree accelerated) only had 30 people in it, so it was very competitive.
Needless to say, it was a combination of GPA (Overall + Science pre-req) and Interview process.
From what I was told, the graduate programs are weighted heavily in volunteerism & leadership as well as the interview process.
Finally submitted my application to the MSN-FNP program for Fall 2018.
Can anyone clarify how they calculate our GPA? I applied to another program that requires full transcript verification and NursingCAS has multiple GPAs noted, none of which include one specifically for the last 60 credit hours. However, all of this GPA information is on my USF application through NursingCAS.
Nursing CAS also counted coursework toward my GPA that I know for a fact USF does not include based on the GPA calculation/transfer credit summary that USF did for me back in 2015 when I was considering applying to their ABSN program. If USF CON does not want to receive any transcripts and they only go to NursingCAS, how do they calculate all this?
I applied Oct. 2017...application under review Jan. 2018....interviewed Feb. 1 2018....and now waiting. BSN GPA: 4.0, Science GPA: 3.0, Overall GPA: 3.6. 2 years open heart and 8 years ER experience. I was told the "definite yes" will be notified within a few days of interview; the rest of us will be placed in "alternate". After application closing date and all interviews complete; we may have a chance. Good Luck to everyone!

Hello ER.rn0922,
I am not really changing careers, more so supplementing my chiropractic career by expanding my scope of practice & becoming dually licensed as a DC/FNP. I plan to add more services to my practice and have more opportunities available by earning the FNP. It will allow me to treat patients on both sides of the spectrum and integrate to mainstream healthcare. I work closely with a number of providers (MD/ARNP/Ortho/Neuro etc.), so getting the FNP will open more doors to group practice and professional growth. It is amazing how many more opportunities there are available by obtaining the NP licensure.
