USAF 2012 NTP Board

My recruiter told me that the actual clearance and background check is after we find out if we're in. They use FBI investigators and homeland security officers to interview our references and check up on previous residences etc. The rationale he gave me is that they would waste a lot of time and resources doing a full check on every applicant, since its so involved, so this is completed in the fall after selection and notification. This is how he explained it to me, but I know we all have been getting some different info from recruiters

That's what I was thinking...my mom is an investigator for the government for those attempting to obtain a clearance and it takes her quite awhile to "complete" the background investigator work before the info is submitted back....I dunno....I'm just nervous about getting in...the only thing that keeps me going is knowing I had a great essay, resume and excellent sources for my LORs

Ohhhh! Well that makes sense! Thanks for informing me everyone :)

yeah...when i enlisted it took like 7 months for them to complete my first security clearance. my first duty assignment was to Aviano AB, Italy. there were a few of my classmates who were in training with me who got their security clearances earlier than i did...if your first assignment will be in the CONUS your security paperwork won't take as long as it will for those who go overseas. and not that any of you have anything to hide, but try to list good credible witnesses, bc the investigators actually WILL go through and call your references. and one other thing...save records of your old phone numbers and address where you lived and friends names who knew you there, bc every 10 years you have to renew your security clearance and you'll need all that info again...every 5 years if you get a Top Secret, 10 years for Secret.

man you guys really make me smile with all your excited talk about getting your new uniforms and never taking them off and all that! :) i kinda forgot how exciting it was to get your first uniform and wear it around and check yourself out in mirrors and all that haha!

not much longer now...breathe everybody...just breathe

I wish they would at least give us the numbers! They should know we are dying for a little information haha. At least school starts soon and I have clinical the very first two days so they are really kicking us into gear!

The numbers have been released as far as how many were accepted :) 46 total, 40 med/surg and 6 OB

Do we know for sure how many applied yet? We have a couple numbers on here (110 and 80) but I didn't know if any of you heard official numbers. And the breakdown of those numbers..how many had applied med/surg and how many OB.

I applied for Med/Surg!!!! :)

My recruiter said the official numbers haven't been given but there have been some rumors, just like rumors on the amount they were going to select prior to the boards meeting! He did say that there were not a lot of applicants for this board though!

Edit: I sure hope 46 is correct or even a higher number will do. I wonder why the OB # is so low, I suppose there are less pathways and therefore less turnover in that route vs med/surg. I hope everyone on this board were selected and given their first choice.

Did anyone ask if not selected for first choice, if they would ask of the second choice would be okay? I assume those with very competitive packets for OB may be given the option to go med/surg since there were very few spots.

Wonderful! The less that apply, the better percentage of acceptance if they're taking 46 :)

Did our recruiter tell you that today?...I haven't heard anything from him...

Are you going to email our recruiter and ask him?

Probably not...At this point I feel I'm too concerned with whether or not I've been selected to worry about asking him any more questions about other things!!
