Forum for any and all discussions about the upcoming nurse transition program selection board for the USAF in 2012

Hello all!I'm also applying for the August NTP. I've been reading this blog for the past two weeks and thought I'd jump in and join the support. My recruiter sent my application off late but I was approved for an extension, so I'm hoping it doesn't affect my chances with this round. Everyone on here seems to have VERY competitive packets! I hope I may be chosen with with everyone else. A bit about me:-LPN 2008 and worked LTCU and med surg while goin to school for Rn-graduated BSN 2/12-started working OR 3/12-RN GPA 3.8 (cum 3.2)...wish I would have worked harder in school:/-no prior military experience. But married to military (AF)-awaiting waiver for sulfa allergyI'm also as curious as everyone else about the amount to be selected. Questions I thought about are:if there are about 3-4 bases that conduct the NTP, it's around 11 weeks long, applicants are chosen once a year (but Im not sure)-how many go to each base and how often do they have the course? -If its about 11 weeks long, then that would provide about 3 intervals of NTP training. Let's say each base has enough room for 30 students. That would allow for about 120 applicants??? -Is the selection to fill the NTP program for the whole year or just the first 11 week opening? -IF selected, when does the earliest NTP start?I hope that all makes sense. I'm just reeling all of this info in my brain as I too am wanting soooo badly to get in. I tried to call my recruiter but he is away till next week. He said we would know by the end of Aug. I put down that I could start October 2012 cuz he didn't know the soonest start date.

Welcome to the thread yippee :)

Sounds like you've done a lot of thinking about NTP and everything. Wish I had answers for ya but I don't. I still have lots of friends n active duty in maintenance cuz that's what I did from 98-08 but I don't know anybody in medical in the AF. Wish I did! I did find a Facebook page though called Air Force Nurse Corps where people can ask questions and communicate, and that might be a good place for you to post those questions. I saw on one post that an NTP instructor replied to a question, so maybe she or others out there would reply to yours or know more info. Seems like everybody on our thread here are all hopefuls and are just as clueless as the next person about what's gonna happen after August. Anyway...good luck and I hope you get the answers you're lookin for :)

LN75, What thread was the NTP instructor on? That would be a great person to ask questions!

My recruiter just told me there's an NTP starting in July 2013

If you read through the posts on the page you will find her....I remember seeing her posts but do not remember her name!

Good luck!

She was answering a question on the Facebook page I was telling you about...haven't seen any posts here on allnurses made by NTP instructors.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while and the July 2013 NTP date caught my eye ... do they have a tendency to move that date around? I don't graduate until August 2013 and I'm thinking I'll probably miss the 2013 cutoff. 2012 applicants - any ideas on that?

Have you gotten in touch with a healthcare recruiter? They would be able to provide more accurate info for you...I spoke with my recruiter yesterday and the board is still meeting 24 July. You could start your packet for next year's board since you will be graduating next August!

In order to apply for this year's board, you must be within one year graduating with a BSN from an accredited school or have less than one year of experience as an RN. Anyone else have any info to add?

Good luck to you :)

SN2013 had good information. A healthcare recruiter is your best bet, but here's so more information. The boards meet a couple times a year, early in the year and around this time. Since you're not within 365 of graduation, you can't send in stuff to this July board anyways. So, call a healthcare recruiter, and let them know you're done next August. If you get things rolling, you could possibly get things in for the first board next year. But..as SN2013 said as well, calling the recruiter is your first step! Good luck!

Awesome, thanks for the info! I plan on contacting the healthcare recruiter next month ... good luck with this year's board everyone.

Does anybody know if there is a possibility the board might try to contact us to confirm things or ask additional questions next Tuesday when they meet? I recently found out I have jury duty that day and if I end up having to stay the entire day, I'm worried I won't have the chance to answer my phone or check email before the board is over for the day....and they probably wouldn't look too kindly on someone who doesn't respond to them....

I'd make a special answering message for that day stating you are in jury duty and will respond to calls after. This way whoever calls you whether its the board or someone else will know you are unable to answer and they know when they can expect a call from you!

I would hope you wouldn't get punished for being in jury duty and I think they can take several days to completely review everyone's applications so this gives you some more time to respond if they do call!
