  1. What is the protocol for your hospitals on going to and from work? Are y’all wearing masks to work? Wearing them throughout the hospital? Or only wearing masks with patient contact?
  2. COT was about 5 weeks. My advice is to get your uniform before you go. Get them altered as needed and name tapes, rank etc placed. They should provide you with a list. You don't have to do this because at COT, they will take you to do this. But it's a headache when they lose something or items are not finished on time. And what ever you forgot, get it while you are there. you will only need 2-3 civilian outfits. You hardly wear normal clothes. I would also start practicing your physical fitness and make sure you can pass the PT test. They will have you do a PT test at COT. And you will run a 5k. This test does not count for the real AF. You will have to take another one for the AF. That's what my experience was. Bring a computer because you will have homework to do. If you are driving and have your own small printer, take it. It helps save time vs waiting for everyone to print their homework from the lobby printers (I think there's 3). You can have snacks in your room too. Since I drove, I brought everything. I was looking for my comfort. COT was a lot of fun and I made great life long friends there. That's more to teach you about the AF and military customs. NTP is just a refresher of nursing skills. You will go to class, have a little homework and clinicals. I am currently at SAMMC. It's big and can be intimidating but it's a great teaching hospital. I love it there. If you have more questions let me know. have fun and good luck! You can make your experience fun or bad. Have fun with it. None of it has been awful. I did have a friend who hated COT. But he stressed himself out. He was a big time control freak who wanted everything perfect. He took on a leadership position of flight commander at COT and tried to control his whole flight and micro manage vs gaining the respect of his flight and having them work for and with him. He ended up being in the military for about 4 years and then got out. Too bad because he was a hard worker and had so much potential. So, it's how you make your experience.
  3. Hey all, so good to see a lot of y'all on here:). I'm one of the OB selects and just wanted to update you on what may be taking so long for the alternates. My assumption is that not all of the selects have even found out when they are going to COT and have even gotten their orders. I happen to be one:( They said its cuz my hubby is active duty and they are trying to situate us to be stationed together after all of my training. But that's alright, I'm patiently waiting. The uniforms are very spendy. I spent about 1200 on 2 sets of Abu's, 2 sets of blues, a pair of boots a pair of black shoes, The PT uniforms, tshirts, socks, belts, 2 silver name tags, 2 blue name tags, metal and sew on butter bars, nursing badge, cam hat ,flight hat, and I'm sure there are a couple of things I'm missing on this list that I got. But it wasn't 2000. I didn't get the formal mess dress. But I heard that's about 800. I'm still crossing my fingers for everyone and gonna keep checking on here and will be waiting to celebrate with y'all. Good luck!!!!
  4. That's pretty high on the alternate list. I'm sure you will make it! Congrats!!!
  5. Well the news came in for me and I got in for OB select!!!! I'm in!!!! Air Force here I come! Still crossing fingers for everyone as well!
  6. Today my recruiter told me that the total number of applicants was about 300. I hope he is just misinformed. has anyone else heard 300? I'm so bummed right now. I also asked him if we chose OB and they didn't have the opening then if they just look at you for med surg. He said they may offer the med surg position. Does anyone have insight on this? I feel as though I am being mislead:(
  7. That is very strange. That sounds like some CSI stuff there. I wonder what that was all about? Let us know when you find out:)
  8. I totally agree. Weekends seem tough because it's the blackout days where you know you won't hear from the recruiter and you can't get a hold of anybody. So, we rely on each other, hoping one of us will be able to shed some light on our questions and concerns. Five more days buddy, five more days (hopefully):)
  9. I haven't heard anything like that either. If that's the case, I'm sure we are all pretty good to go in that area:)
  10. Hahah, I tried to countdown from the 26. Then I started reading all of these posts. Now my stupid brain is stuck on the 10th. Drats, this dreadful brain. Lol
  11. Just got on today. Wow, I really have zero patience. This countdown isn't helping either. Lol
  12. LN75, I tried to join the Facebook Air Force Nurse Corps. I clicked on the join. Do you know how long it takes to be accepted?
  13. I'm also putting my hopes on the 10th. I posted before that I would just wait for the 24th, but that sure isn't happening. Dang this wait! I wasn't this antsy about hearing if I was accepted to nursing school. Waiting for the results of this tops it all off. Come on time, go faster!!!
  14. Wow I check the posts for today and I'm so behind! A lot more posts since I last looked. As I see, everyone is dreaming about being in the Air Force as much as I am! Just yesterday one of my co-workers was asking me about the military and why I decided to apply. I told her about my dad being in the AF, my husband being in the AF, the perks, the pride I have for the military and so on. She became angry and said she felt it was unfair that military members get the perks of BAH, BAS, Post 911 GI Bill, etc. while she has to struggle to pay bills and pay for her son's college. I reminded her that joining is a choice to be ready to fight for our country's freedom, with the possibility of dying for her freedom. Even though many have not died, there are also many who have died. As I wanted to say more and continue to debate, I knew it was useless. So I was the big girl and left it at that. But after I went back to working, I felt that I was already in the Air Force and had to bring myself back to reality. But I can definitely say, because of her unappreciative views, I want to be in the AF so much more. And I thought I already wanted to be in pretty bad, but now every minute of my day is thirsting to proudly put on that uniform and give back to our fellow members as a nurse! And of course to smirk in her face that I'm no longer a civilian. Cheers to all of us on here as I hope that we all get in at the same time. Those of us who don't get in this round, will reapply and join the others later. No matter, we will all serve together one day. No one on here better give up, cuz we are all rooting for each other!!
  15. I haven't heard anything. Are we supposed to find out if they've called our references? I'll have to contact mine and see if they've received any calls. But I'm sure they call all applicants references, right?
