Employers don't like to see gaps in employment history. Right now we're even seeing that RNs who have been out of school for a few years aren't able to get into the new grad programs because they're not considered new grads even though they've never worked as a RN. It's a sad situation right now all around because ALL NURSES are struggling to find work. If you're not already in the US, then your best bet is to look elsewhere for work because right now everyone here is struggling to find work. It's easier to find a needle in the haystack rather than find work in the US. Yes, there are very VERY few areas that are hiring, but even those few places aren't willing to spend money to bring over foreign educated nurses when there are plenty of people in the US who are qualified, ready, willing, and able to work. It's just cost effective. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, expand your horizens and check out other options. Good Luck
Yasha there are different visas out there and the economy was a bit better then. The person may have come on another visa other than a work visa. There are some who slip through the cracks who didn't qualify for a work visa but were able to obtain one through fraud. The working visas are being investigated as there are some who don't qualify for them. Those who have been caught have been sent back or their return is pending. It just all depends.
Your best bet is to try for a nursing job locally because right now in the US the chances are slim to none. Good Luck in your endevours.
