US Nursing Experience

Hi Everyone,

Wondering if any fellow canadians could share their recent experience with regards to obtaining a job and VISA in the US. I am thinking of a move to

Florida and wondering how long the process takes between obtaining a job offer to actually going down to start work. How were the NCLEX and CGFNS exams? Any info greatly appreciated.

well, i have no exact date issued from cgfns. one person said to me, once you send in your document, it stays in the processing area for approximately 15 days before it is data entered into the computer system so i am wondering how many piles of paper are still waiting to get processed? another person quoted me 4 to 6 weeks once all my documents are into cgfns. i have tried emailing. one time, i had one person email me and they told me to send a copy of something and i did, the next time i called the next person and they of the same document to send a verified copy. if you call them, you will at least get a person to talk to.

one of my nursing friends wanted to know how long it took for the cgfns to issue certificate once you passed the nclex boards/bon verification and had all the other paperwork done?

HI, if you want to be a nurse here in the USA, be prepared to have some money saved. Every thing costs money, every little bit of paper work which you have to do, costs at least 20.00 American. For example once I got my license($), I had to send out a verification form which I had to obtain from CGFNS and then I had to send that form to the board of nurisng so they could send it to CGFNS. The cost was 26.00 for this one. ( This is just a piece of the puzzle) There should be one flat fee for the whole visa process.

You're right, there are fees for everything. We have alot of licenses to verify, so it adds up quickly. But, we have plenty of fees here in Canada too.

How long have you been working on your Visa Screen now? Maybe you're getting close to receiving it. :)

Im hoping there are more perks in the USA, like courses I dont have to pay for ?? I applied for my visa screen back in July 2004 and I just sent in the last document. Thanks for reminding me.:)

I have run into some free courses here and there, especially if they're required for your job.

So you've been waiting for almost a year? That's rough!

I just called Champlain NY Immigration and I talked to them. They were very nice and then I called Vancouver. I recommend Champlain. I appreciate every one's advice here as it adds up to immigration. At the New York border , you need your Canadian passport, a detailed letter(length of employment, salary, description of RN position, official letterhead, original signiture from your employer), your visascreen, and your state license and 56.00 American dollars. Over the phone, NY had time to help me and it certainly makes a difference when someone takes time. What I'd rather be doing: practicing my violin. :Melody:
