Before I begin, and hoping this is not going to sound trite... I have a lot of admiration for all you US nurses out there :)
But seriously...
It's up to you to get your pre-reqs before you even apply to nursing school - in the UK and Italy they're part of the course (we do three years, or sometimes four, depending...)
Once you actually get your pre-reqs, and even with excellent grades... there doesn't seem to be any guarantee of getting in to nursing school. After working so hard for your pre-reqs...
Then once you finish school comes the NCLEX... wow...
Then once you pass your NCLEX, is there even a job out there for you??? :uhoh3:
I don't really know what the point of this post was, other than to say I think you guys have it pretty tough, and that I really admire you for going through what you do. Good luck to all US nurses!!! I'm with you all in spirit!!! :heartbeat:redbeathe

Having worked in both UK and the US I think there are positives in bothe countries which if merged together would make the best health care system in the world.
Yes in the US you earn more money but you have to pay each pay period for health care benefits which can depending on which state you live in add up to a lot of money. Plus I now pay $800 a year out of my salary because I work in a certain place, and I dont live in a township.
Vacation time is mean in the US plus sick time is not paid for unless you have PLB or PTO
In the UK you get 7 weeks vacation time and more depending on how long you have worked for the NHS
Paid sick time again amount depends on how long you have worked for the NHS
Before I left the UK I had 8 weeks and 2 days vacation time, plus 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay for sick time.
Now I pay into an insurance policy for short term and long term disability which amounts to $72 per month but will give me up to $500 per week pay if I am sick, but doesn't kick in until I have been in the plan for a year and the first week I get nothing.
The reason I stay I love American People and this is now my home!
