Hi everyone,
I am US educated RN which Bachelor's degree applying to CNO.
I received my NNAS assessment as "Somewhat Compatible".
In July I passed Jurisprudence exam and just a few days ago I received an assessment from CNO.
The letter states that I need to go back to school and take classes to fulfill 100 competencies.
My questions are:
-Has anyone appealed CNO registration decision?
-Has anyone taken classes fulfill these competencies and how long did it take you? What school did you go to?
-Did anyone used CARE help with any part of the process?
Thank you, I appreciate all the information I can get at this point.

I don't think UoT can help you, they do not have an IEN bridge program. Can you phone York and CARE before you come to Toronto? They can let you know if they are willing to see you, book an appointment and advise if you need to bring documents such as CNO's letter of direction.
I am perplexed that you have to fulfill 100 competencies, if you read the Report on Canada NCSBN Entry Level RN Competency Statement Comparison, (available on the Canadian council of registered nurse regulators), you can see that "93% of Ontario RN competencies possessed a one-to-one relationship with a NCSBN RN activity statement, knowledge, skills and ability statement or integrated process." It doesn't make sense that you would be deficient in 100 competencies. I wonder if your assessment was somehow missing information? Is it possible to find out what information NNAS received from your schools? Did your school(s) put your NNAS identifying number on the the documents before sending it to NNAS? If you look at the thread from tjonanas she expereinced a problem as her NNAS was based on incomplete information.

Dishes,
Both phone calls are on my calendar for Monday at 9 00. =)
I am also confused by why I have so many competencies to fill in. My NNAS report was compatible at 54.9%. I am wondering if CNO was missing syllabi.
I searched my Med-Surg II syllabus and searched one of the words from competencies 1, 2, 3 and pretty much they matched in the section from clinical rotation evaluation and performance exam evaluation.
I am inclined to submit an appeal just to make sure CNO has all the pertinent information that they are entitled to from my schools.
I read the other thread but I think its not my case. I was satisfied with Somewhat Compatible report since many other forums I was reading people were getting Not Compatible.
Are you moving to Ontario next week? or visiting? Have you been approved by Citizen and Immigration Canada to migrate to Canada?
If you are planning on attending an information session with CARE, they ask you to bring

I am visiting next week.
Yes, I am a Canadian PR.
I was also just looking again at my letters from CNO and noticed that on the very 1st letter they name my colleges by their full corresponding name. On the 2nd letter, however, they name them differently. Should this concern me?

Maybe? Can you enquire about it by email to CNO?
If you are going to appeal, try to get some idea about the appeal process by reading the fair registration practice reports on CNO's website, you have to read more than one year's worth, because the reports are audits based on the recommended improvements from the previous years reports. Personally, I think their should be more transparency about NNAS' process and their advisory reports.

I don't know what NNAS advisory reports contain, do they give the percentages of the entry to practice competencies by domain? for example;
Professional responsibility and accountability __%
Service to the public__%
Self regulation__%
Knowledge based practice__%
Ethical practice __%
If so, did your report show lower percentages in some domains and higher in others? Do your 100 competency gaps seem to reflect the lower percentages in the domains of your advisory report?
Yea, there was a breakdown of competencies in NNAS report:
Responsibility and accountability: 56%
Knowledge-Based practice: 69.7%
Ethical practice: 60.5%
Service to public: 47%
Self-Regulation: 41.5%
Is the total number of competencies a 100?? I the document Entry to practice Competencies from CNO it lists 100.

Are you in Ontario? Can you show it to an IEN bridge educator?
