No worries and happy to help! Now I will say when you're in the OR shadowing you may get asked clinical questions,

the clinical site director at my site happened to be precepting my student and asked me about waveforms on the ventilator, difference between volume control and pressure control ventilation and how those waveforms look differently on the ventilator and why and why there is a normal gap on the ventilator ETCO2 and serum blood gas CO2

I also was asked to convert medication rates from mg/hr to mcg/kg/min with only pen and paper and no calculator - my ICU experience is all PICU and almost everything in Peds is weight based mcg/kg/min, mcg/kg/hr or mg/kg/hr so it wasn't too much of an issue

they made the numbers work nice too in multiples of 10 and easy to divide numbers- when I was preparing to interview I came across some people saying to prepare how to multiply and divide decimals without a calculator - so I just did a quick Google search and after some practice it wasn't too bad

The ventilator questions were in the OR and not the official interview but the math question was during my official interview

My math is pretty good and so glad you mentioned waveforms and vent settings. I have to work on those! Please let me know if you come up with more ?appreciate that!!

I think you are a pretty strong candidate. Have you done biochemistry? How about your science GPA?

My science GPA is around 3.8-3.9 I believe, I haven't done the exact calculations.. but, thank you for your response! I wish us both luck to get in!! ?

How is the lifestyle at BOLC in Ft. Sam Houston? I heard it is a M-F schedule with weekends off with some training out in the field on some weekends. Also, I have a wedding March 2025 on a Saturday that I'd like to attend (It's in Austin, Texas). Do we need to get prior approval to go outside the base during BOLC on weekends? And if we do, how likely would that be approved? Thank you in advance! ?

I'm about to start biochemistry through portage learning then knocking out the CCRN.

How has the class gone for you? I'm going to start it next week!

Decided to switch up the order. Doing CCRN then biochem

Hi all. New on this post. For the guys who are in the program; how likely is it for you to pick your phase II sites? Ie. JBLM, Tacoma WA? Also, how competitive is it? The COA website said typically 40+ qualified applicants for 24-30 spots. Is it anywhere near that? Considering some of the civilian schools I've applied for had 500 applicants for 16 spots. ?

Prior National Guard 68WF2 critical care flight paramedic and now ICU nurse (mixed med trauma Level II and now TSICU in Level I). TCRN, CFRN, CCRN, CEN. Also Nationally registered paramedic and Flight Paramedic Certified. BSN 3.54 GPA.

Phase 2 sites just depend on how many people want to go. Usually the hot items are Hawaii, WA, and San Antonio. Other sites are generally easier to get. I wanted El Paso and that was relatively easy to place into. In my opinion we generally have less applicants per slot due to the additional physical requirements through meps and historically ccrn/gre/biochem. Maybe there will be more since those requirements went away but it's hard to say. Truly only usagpan has those numbers. When I was a recruiter I was accepted and the two applicants I put forward.

Do you know how long medical waivers usually take. Pretty much just waiting on those. I have an interview set up for March.

So the VA funding got cut for this year. I wonder how often this happens? They are intending on picking back up for the next cycle. Extremely disappointed and I am wondering if I should apply elsewhere. Really wish there was more transparency and a way to know more. It sure is an amazing opportunity when it happens. Best of luck to all the applicants, in school, and while serving. Thanks for all you will do to help our troops. God bless!

Government funding of any sort is so variable. It's so hard to predict what will happen with our government branches. Best of luck to you! Hopefully they bring it back, it's a pretty sweet deal

Hi, any advice about when to submit application on Baylor application portal? Better to do it early or wait until near their August 1st deadline?
