US Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing (USAGPAN) FY2025
So the VA funding got cut for this year. I wonder how often this happens? They are intending on picking back up for the next cycle. Extremely disappointed and I am wondering if I should apply elsewhere. Really wish there was more transparency and a way to know more. It sure is an amazing opportunity when it happens. Best of luck to all the applicants, in school, and while serving. Thanks for all you will do to help our troops. God bless!

Super late but congrats! I am a VA RN that is looking into USAGPAN - I've had some difficulty navigating the process but was wondering if I could send a couple questions your way? US Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing (USAGPAN) FY2025
That's awesome! Congrats!! If you had to do it over again would you? I am a VA Nurse and was wondering if you have any insight into the VA nurses you are in school with. Also, I know it's gonna be very individual specific, but how much time out of the program do you feel like you have available for other activities such as family? I have an MSN, 4.0 GPA, CCRN, and maintain my RRT credential. I also have a biochemistry class but not on the approved list. Any thoughts?

VA 72/80 schedule
@NeNe Facility I work in has it on nights but not days which is baffling. Furthermore, our day shift NPs in our MSICU have 72/80. Great for everyone getting it - terrible practice and business model to pit us vs them by doing a day vs night shift thing. Feel free to message me with any info or suggestions you have. Straight resistance is being felt as we push to bring it to day shift.

VA proficiency
Initially you can review the boards evaluation with your manager and then you can see where you were labeled deficient by the board, rewrite it and resubmit. If they still reject it, you can appeal to VACO. VACO takes it away from the facility and takes an objective look at it. The VA wonders why they have recruitment and retention issues yet strives hard to pigeonhole their high performing employees by refusing to promote them accordingly.

VA Palo Alto Valor Program 2021
Does anyone on this thread know if VA employees at Palo Alto get paid time and a half after 8 hours?

VA
Can anyone tell me if the VA hospitals follow California overtime law for 1.5x pay after 8 hours and 2x base pay after 12 hours? Very specific question but I appreciate any insight one can offer.

Disposable Bronchoscopes
They are simple to use...prevent the need for cleaning. We now utilize them in the ICU at two different jobs where I work. They would definitely prevent unnecessary call time for the endo department. I'm a fan.

ABG Results, Explain this to me....
Patients who are neurogenic breathing breathing often exhibit "funky" breathing patterns. Often times they have huge tidal volumes (>1000 cc's)with low respiratory rates. Can be related to a brain-stem issue. Any CO2 that is outside analytical measurement will be unreportable and all abg analazyers are a little different [the one's I used the cut off was at 19]. A CO2 that is unreportable will yield a bicarb that is incalculable. If there is a PaO2 reported there is a high probability the SaO2 should have been reported by the machine. Either way - a PaO2 in the 70s on 6L via NC is not any thing to make you flustered. If I was the RT I would have re-ran the sample to verify there wasn't an error with the machine (it can happen) but I wouldn't believe it to be a bad sample if it came back with the same results the second time. Neuro patients. . .what a wonderful thing.
