Hey All!!!!
I know this has been mentioned before, but I also know that it is buried somewhere within all of the information on this website so I thought I would create a new thread.
This is for all people going to COT 10-06 in August.
If you are on Facebook, we have a Facebook page started that you will be able to find called "US Air Force COT 10-06" Join the group or post questions and messages on here.
Can't wait to see you all in August!!!
Another instance that sometimes things go wrong and you do not have control over them. My understanding is that I must send some documentation in before i can even get an invitation to MEPS. Do you know what that means? My husband thinks (an ex-marine) that they determine if you are automatically disqualified. If not you get to take the physical at MEPS.
Iam sending a copy of the MRI (brain with and without contrast) and EKG I recieved, both negative. I hope that's enough. Do you think I'll need anything else?
Thankk you for sharing your experience.
For the over 40 physical at MEPS I had to have a pap done within a yr, mamo within a yr, ekg with md signature within a month, eye pressure taken within a month and I want to say I sent lab work too. All of this was sent to my recruiter he submitted it to MEPS then I got the appt to go. The only thing I could see that was different than a reg was I got sent out to have labs at a civilian lab.
The lunch was horrible, fast food and soda guess if I was 18 it would have been great but not a this age.
I had a few issues several years ago but nothing chronic. They requested documentation from my primary MD stating that I've had no issues since. I had childhood asthma that resolved before I even reached high school I was never on routine meds. I had to locate my childhood records. Mind you, I'm 41 now so this was a challenge especially since my pediatrician is retired. I pulled it off. Whew. This is part of the reason for my 12 month application process. Hang in there and know you're in for a long process. Dtay on top of everything and provide what they request asap. This way you aren't holding anything up.
it can be a very long process. I had to be cleared by two specialists and submit loads of paperwork and written statements. The two specialists confirmed that the MEPS physician was an idiot and waalaa 8 months (and $2500) later I was cleared. I do think the MEPS MD should have his license revoked.
The MEPS doc I had was about 70! WHen my husband was recruiting they had a doc at that MEPS called "Dr Death" he DQ'd more recruiters than anyone. ANd mind you most were perfectly fine. The uppers had a boat lot of complaints (from parents, recruits and recruiter) so they sent some through to him who had perfect health (med doc's to confirm) and the MD got nailed. He left quiet quickly after that. He never gave a reason for his horrible behavior. I recall years ago that there were about 10 pages of DQ's and some were insane....ie excessive body hair, micromember, etc.

With your advice I made an appt for a mamo and pap smear for next week. I sent my most recent thyroid labs (may) with my MEPS request and an EKG from May also. I had a glaucoma exam a couple of months ago so I will get that. I lso sent a letter saying my thyroid is stable and that I have had no vasal vagal syncope since this event in February, both letters from my physician. I hope this is enough.

I started with labs and 2 notes from my physicians. Lets hope I can get a waiver.

I also have a thyroid issue. I was diagnosed with Grave's disease in 2000, did a one time oral radiation treatment and have been considered "hypothyroid" ever since and take daily Synthroid. I had to submit all my medical records regarding the initial diagnosis and treatment and my yearly lab results including my most recent that had to be less than 3 months old, prior to being approved for MEPS. I knew from my own research that "any history of hyperthyroidism (which Grave's is a form of) was disqualifying", however, at MEPS the doc looked over all my stuff and pulled out his regulation book and cleared me based on the fact the I now have stable hypothyroidism controlled by my meds! Yeah! I did not even require a waiver!! I am now awaiting my chief nurse interview that is supposed to be Sept 10 in Oklahoma City and then my packet is supposed to go before the Nov board. My MEPS experience wasn't bad at all. I would suggest leaving everything locked in your car other than your driver's license and social security card. I also wore a light zip up jacket and was grateful for it. Also, be prepared to stand around in your undies and bra in a freezing cold room with strangers! I was glad I bought some hipster style undies and a "full coverage" bra just for the occasion. I arrived at 0530 and was finished by 1300 which wasn't bad at all. Best wishes to the COT class starting today! You all are in my thoughts and prayers!!

You're right. At least that they realize over 40 may have a need for a waiver. Just hope my situation warrants a waiver. I understand their concern and am willing to comply, just want an opportunity.
Thank you again I feel a little encouraged. My husband had a copy of the AR 40-501 ( I think that's what its called, he was a marine). My issues are not automatic disqualifiers, not even for flight. So still have a chance.
