Hi everyone, I thought it wouldn't be too early to create a page for prospective students applying to Ursuline's second degree accelerated nursing program. I'll be coming in from out of state, and would love to chat with anyone who is interested or already in the program. Good luck and looking forward to meeting you all!

I’m interested in Ursuline’s SDAP! I’ve just had some trouble finding information about it, such as how competitive it is.

I had some trouble too, being it's such a small school and there's not much chatter about it online. I called the admissions counselor, Dwane, and he was extremely helpful in answering all of my questions!

I had the opposite experience- I have to communicate via email (living in South Korea with an international phone number and a 13 hour time difference), and he agreed to that... then never responded to another of my emails. I got into somewhere I prefer over Ursuline, though, so it doesn't really matter.

Hello all!
I just started Ursuline ABSN in Aug 2019. So far, the classes are pretty intense and you really need a good foundation of A&P And medical terminology to do well at the beginning. Once you get over the first hump of it’s less science and more nursing theories and learning the fundamentals. Clinicals are intense and they expect you to step be the nurse day 1 (based off what you’ve learned so far) whether you have experience or not. You have a pretty good chance of getting in if you do really well in your lab sciences (3.5-4.0) and overall GPA around 3.0 ( this is based off of talking to my other classmates) if you retake a lab science (which I did) it helps you more than it will hurt you especially if you go from a C to an A. Some professors are harder graders than others, the same with exams ( you’ll kinda figure that out from the start). Clinicals aren’t competitive that much unless everyone wants to go to the exact same hospital and department which I doubt. If so it’s based on grades. But this is CLE and there are 100+ hospitals in like a 75mi radius so trust me you’ll get placed somewhere even if you’re the worst in the class (but still passing). Again no worries you will get placed whether it’s UH or CCF ( those are the main 2; metro requires a little more experience). Both UH and CCF are the best in the country so no matter where you go it’s gonna look good on your resume. Also, both of those hospitals are both known to hire Ursuline students right out of nursing school. I just started my first clinical at UH and have already been extended that offer. That’s all I can think of. Don’t be afraid to message me if there are any more questions ?

Hi! I was accepted into Ursuline's accelerated nursing program. It seems like such a great program, but I would be moving alone from NJ to Ohio and feel anxious about it. Are any of the people in your cohort from out of state or is basically everyone from the general area? Also, do you think the program is worth the move? I feel like I would be missing out on an amazing opportunity if I didn't attend the school. I just feel so torn between this program and another one in Philadelphia.

Hello and congratulations!!! surprisingly there are a lot of people from California in my class. There are also a few people from Montana, Jersey and Illinois. With this program you work directly with 2 out of the 3 major systems here in Cleveland (Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals) and they are known to hire Ursuline students right out of nursing school. Even if you didn't want to stay in CLE after you graduate, those hospitals are known all over the countries. I just finished my first clinical and got offered a job at UH. They have high expectations for you so expect to work hard if you do come here.

Thank you so much for your reply! Do you find the coursework to be manageable?

For me, its pretty manageable but it also depends on what type of student you are. Im laid back so I'm the type of person that feels like if I have a good understanding of things, I'm fine but there are some people that feel like they have to look at/ know every little thing that is provided by the professor. If you're that type of person it might be more difficult for you because it is a lot of information in a short amount of time. I will say this also: the professors here are here to help you and make it easier. They do not make things harder on purpose and they're pretty upfront about the exams (NCLEX style). As long as you stay on top of assignments and have a good understanding of the material, you should be fine

Thank you for all the information. I appreciate your feedback. I have another question for you. As an accelerated nursing student, do we only take the classes that fill the requirements for the BSN degree? Or are we also enrolled in some of Ursuline's core curriculum classes?

Yeah for sure. All of the classes for the program are for the BSN requirements except for 1 class which is Bioethics. Even if you have taken it before it will not count; you have to take it at Ursuline. The class is basically knowing where ethics plays a role in during nursing. Also, knowing where you stand ethically as a nurse and knowing what to do if you disagree with something ethically as a nurse. Ursuline big thing is clinical hours as I call it "street smarts". The reasoning behind that is the more you practice being a actual nurse the better you will be upon graduation.
