Ursuline College, Ohio - 2019 ABSN

Published

Hello All!

I wanted to start a thread for the 2019 Cohort Candidates for Ursuline's ABSN Program.

Whether you are applying or have been admitted, perhaps we can share information and questions here. I have not seen a thread for this program yet.

Thanks!

Anyone doing on campus housing

Hi there, I'm also very interested in attending Ursuline's Accelerated 2nd degree nursing program. Are there any current or past students who can offer any insight/tips regarding the rigor of the program, how classes are formatted, how faculty assist you throughout your academia, as well as the environment of the school/city? I'll be coming from Maui, so huge difference in terms of relocation. I've never been to Ohio either, so also wondering if the area nearby school has any malls/affordable dining options and if it would be safe to seek off-campus housing. I appreciate any advice you can give me! Thank you in advance ?

Hi there, I'm also very interested in attending Ursuline's Accelerated 2nd degree nursing program. Would you please be able to offer any insight/tips regarding the rigor of the program, how classes are formatted, how faculty assist you throughout your academia, as well as the environment of the school/city? I'm currently in Ursuline's SDAP program. Cohorts seem to vary in size, some are around 20 and some are only about 12. We had several people move in from out of state, most seemed to find housing in Mayfield Heights or surrounding area. I would *not* recommend living on the west side (Parma, etc) cause the drive to campus can be 45+ minutes during rush hour.

In terms of rigor, the academic stuff is not too bad so far. The program uses block scheduling where you take one class at a time for a few weeks and then move onto the next class. So you're concentrating a semester's worth of stuff into a few weeks, a week's worth of stuff into a day, etc. It sounds overwhelming but it's really not too bad. Focus on the power points and lecture notes, make lots of flashcards and you'll be fine.

The professors are great -- they're very supportive and have tons of nursing experience they can draw on to tell stories and help make things stick. They give detailed rubrics for major assignments so you know exactly how you'll be graded and what to focus on. Everyone seems to agree patho and pharm are the toughest classes (this is true across every nursing program) and then the schedule gets really hectic once you're taking med-surg since you have to balance class work and clinical hours (working 12hr shifts w your preceptor).

The program is very strong and Ursuline graduates really have a great reputation at local hospitals, not to mention high NCLEX pass rates. Welcome to Cleveland and good luck to everyone who was accepted into the next class! Feel free to shoot me a note if you have questions.

Wow, thanks so much for all of that info! I'm planning to live on campus, but am also open to off-campus options if the price is agreeable, since I will have to find means of transportation and other bills for food/electricity/water! Would you say Mayfield/Lyndhurst are safe areas to live? As far as clinicals, how far are these locations and which have been your favorite so far? Are there any challenges when it comes to finding/applying for clinicals, or does the school assist you in clinical placement? Thanks for all your help; I can't seem to send PMs at the moment. Looks like I have to contribute a couple more posts before I do that!

No worries. Btw, I don't think anyone in my cohort is living on-campus.

You'll need to have your own transportation for clinicals anyways. One of the big parts of Ursuline's SDAP program is that you do some of your clinical hours as one-on-one time with a preceptor (instead of doing it with a bunch of students all following one preceptor) but that means everyone gets spread out so you can't necessarily rely on car pooling.

There's a form you fill out where you tell them where you're living and what your preferences are in terms of clinical placements, and they try to honor them.

I don't know much about the "safety" of those area but I do know that Ursuline is one of the safest college campuses in the country, so I wouldn't be too worried, in general.

Thanks for being so informative! ? I appreciate you taking time to send me such a helpful message. I'm pretty excited to be joining the Ursuline nursing program!

On that note, anybody out there still looking for housing/room mates? I'm considering living on campus but would be so glad to have a room mate to live off campus with, since I will be getting a car and don't mind street parking if I can avoid paying parking passes at the residence halls!

Would anybody on this thread who completed or is in progress with the SDAP program be willing to share your experience at Ursuline and how the program is/was for you? I am completing pre-reqs now and hoping for a Spring 2021 start! Feel free to PM me if you’d prefer.

Hi, thanks for creating this thread! I made an account just so I could respond to this ? I've been accepted to the Fall 2019 Cohort. I'm still waiting to hear back from a few other schools, but I'm most likely going to attend Ursuline. I'll be moving from California, so I'm a little scared, but mostly excited! Anyone else from out of state? Has anyone visited the campus or spoken to alumni of the program?

Hi, I just got accepted to the Spring 2024 cohort. I'm also In California and would love to know your experience with Ursuline.

If anyone find any suggestions on housing downtown please let me know also. It's real hard too since I am moving from California making it harder with the options I have. I am also considering the residential halls now. I know the contract for on campus is due soon and the deadline is July 1st to opt out. It will be great if I get a room or apt.

Hi, I just got accepted to the Spring 2024 cohort and I'm in California. I would love to about your experience to help me decide.
