Urgent Inquiry regarding working in the US as a new graduate from NZ!

Hi, this is Joanne who is a new graduate from New Zealand Nursing School.

I am actually in a very frustrated situation because all the information I get is negative about living in the US as an international nurse.

Although I graduated from New Zealand, I am a Korean citizen. I gained a bachelor degree of nursing and also I got a RN license from Nursing Council of New Zealand. However, since I have all my family in the US, I dream of becoming a nurse in the US and living close with them.

I have been in contact with several agencies and learned from them about the current situation for international nurses in the USA. It is very frustrating for me because I have been told that none of working visas is allowed for international nurses anyhow in the US.

I have stayed in the US already for a year now and it is very depressing for me that I have to go back to New Zealand again.

Can anyone advise for me? I am nowhere to go, but have to decide now whether I will really have to go back to NZ.

Some nurses can meet H1b requirements but this usually involves several years of experience in a speciality and maybe even certified in said speciality. Immigrant visas have been under retrogression since Oct 2006 so even if you found a employer willing to go through the immigration process with you you have several years wait ahead of you at the moment. Basically you are looking at living outside the US whilst waiting for something which will allow you to live and work in the US

How did you stay in the US for a year? There is no year long tourist visa.
