I am so upset. I just found out I got a B in my last prereq class...and the teacher is so all over the place....I really think I should have an A. I had 89%, but if he went off the points, like his syllabus says....I would have an A. So now my GPA is 3.61 for my application to the Nursing program at WCCCD...if I would have gotten an A it would have been 3.78. Anyone have any words of encouragement? What was the lowest they accepted last year?? Thanks.

89% is normally not an A in any class.
Have you discussed this with the instructor?
Many programs have mid-90 requirements to get an A.
That one course will not make a difference on you getting into a program. None of the programs go 100% by grades, many other things are entered into it.
And yes, I trained in MI, and am very familiar with most of the programs there.

WCCC considers the GPA first and foremost. The NET is used as a tiebreaker should the last few under the wire are tied. (The dumb essay doesn't mean a thing, despite what they say.)
I disagree that 'the one course will not make a difference getting into the program.' It could, because the spread is .17 (ask anyone who's ever failed a nursing class!! LOL)
However, Jillian, the last few years, WCCCD's lowest admitting GPA in the past few years has been 3.3, 3.4. You are most likely very, very safe. I'd be plenty mad too, if my points should have added up to an A. As the other poster suggested, get a hold of that prof. What happened to the points between 89 and 92-93??? These last classes of the year annoy me to no end, because you have little recourse to argue test questions or grades. You gotta know the teachers love 'em.

Jillian, I think you are totally fine with that GPA.....{{{breath}}}. Imagine when you are IN the program and keep ending up with 92-93% and those are considered B!! :angryfire
Simple Plan, you are so funny about the essays. I was so freaked and stressed about it, I wonder if they really read them. I know people who wrote 2 or 3 paragraphs and still got in :uhoh21: .

glad i could provide a giggle - god knows we need them in nursing school. honestly, one busts their butt (c'mon, siri, let me swear) in their pre-reqs to get into wcccd and then they are told they have to compose this essay? like, doesn't my a in micro and ap2 impress you? ok, ok i know a nurse has to have a heart, but i'd rather my nurse know her stuff....i'll find the compassion elsewhere. we wouldn't be in this if we didn't care.
besides, i have heard/read where students only turn in a few paragraphs and as you have said, they're in. they got in because they had a high gpa, not because they wrote a compelling essay.
on a more serious note....are you saying 92 or 93 is not an a in the wcccd program? a 92 is an a in hfcc's program....they changed it 2 years ago, i believe.
by the way, i love the way you first semester people have finished and are rocking through the program. i was pulling for you to get in, and you kept at it, and look at you now. now i am pulling for tim to push his way in there.

i am talking about the nursing grading scale. my mind is fried at the moment, i believe our grading scale is as such....75-84%=c, 85-93%=b, and 94-100%=a.
I've got a 3.44 GPA, so I fully expect to be there!

boy, that's a tough a.....94? ouch ouch ouch.
yeah, but a c equals rn!
Yeah, but a C equals RN!
Don't buy into that so much; it's true, you'll pass, but don't depend on C's. Use them as your last safety net. Always swing for the fences, and keep those C's far away.
I just want to see every single person here make it through. :biere:
Yeah, I know what you're saying. I don't plan on pursuing a BA so I plan to reach for excellence and if it looks like a C, I won't complain. After all, if you're in the program and you do your very best, you'll be alright. Tim
