UPMC Shadyside OR Scrubs and Parking

Published

Hey friends! This is my first time posting to allnurses, although I have relied on the sound and sage advice left in these forums for many years.

I come in search of answers that have not been answered (that I can find, at least) since 2008.

I just accepted a position in the OR at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh, PA and am looking for people who have worked there, fairly recent past or present.

Silly me forgot to ask about parking during the interview. Can anyone provide me any information on exactly how bad/far/expensive it is? How long does it take to walk from the parking garage to the OR locker room? I so hate being late.

My second question is regarding the OR provided scrubs. I have not yet had the pleasure of working in a facility who does this for their staff. What do you guys wear into work and how much time should I allow myself to check out some scrubs and change prior to starting my shift?

Okay... third and final question (and probably the least important but I still have to ask)... I have read posts from 2008 stating the color of the scrubs provided were ceil blue. Is this still the color for 2017? Just trying to order a new warm up jacket and I want to coordinate. Priorities!

:-)

Thanks in advance friends!!! I start March 20th and am super excited/nervous as with any new job. If anyone can provide any personal experience as to how to make the most of my 3 months at Shadyside, please feel free to divulge.

I would say call back HR and ask these questions. Most OR's provide scrubs (even if the facility provides them to no-one else) because they don't want outside contaminations in the OR's. And you cannot remove or are you suppose to wear those scrubs outside the facility for the fore mentioned reason.

If they do provide scrubs then they will also provide coordinating warm up jackets and you should not use yours from home.

I'm sure these are fairly common questions and a call to HR will clear them up accurately and quickly.

No, I was instructed that I may wear my own warm-up jackets but of course they will remain in my locker, not be worn outside of the hospital, and will be cleaned regularly. I have worked in several hospitals in my 12 years of nursing and this is the first to provide scrubs to the nurses. It just depends on where you work. Different hospitals have different policies. I am well aware of AORN recommendations, I only asked for people with specific experience at UPMC Shadyside to comment on the color of the scrubs provided. I'm sure you were trying to be helpful but you did not answer anything that I asked.
