I worked at UPMC about 10 or 12 years ago while attending Pitt, and the language was pretty much the same -- they covered 100% of my costs up to the max, which at that time was $3k.
I think the assumption is that if you're working full-time, you'll only be going to school part-time, and so won't need a whole year's worth of tuition.

Hi! I'm reaching out to all UPMC nurses, with a question about tuition reimbursements and assistance. When I look on the info sheet under Infonet, I see two pieces of information that I'm misunderstanding. I'm not seriously looking to go back to school quite yet, but I'm trying to piece together the important information ahead of time.
The two components I'm confused about are "assistance percentage" and "academic year maximum." Below is the exacting wording from the infonet hub:
Assistance Percentage: 100% out-of-pocket tuition at University of Pittsburgh, community colleges, or UPMC Proprietary School; 50% out-of-pocket tuition at other accredited institutions
Academic Year Maximum: Full-time and flex full-time staff $5,000; Regular part-time and job share staff $2,500
So, here's where I'm confused. I'm a full-time flex employee. Let's use University of Pittsburgh as the example university. If accepted, is 100% of my tuition covered, or only 100% up to $5000 over the academic year?
