To those of you who have interviewed for RN positions for UPMC:

what was your interview like? behavioral style questions? does it depend on which location? I have two next week for st margaret's and heritage place.

I think the type and style of the interviews will definitely depend on where you are interviewing at in UPMC. I have worked at Shadyside and Childrens, and interviewed at WPIC, and no two interviews were alike. I would be prepared to answer typical interview questions (ie your experience, goals, weakness). That being said, I have also served as an interviewing panel at Children's, and can say that some hospitals and facilities in UPMC are going to having you interviewed by a panel of interviewers as opposed to one manager.

I interviewed at 3 UPMC hospitals. Some interviewers used a script of behavioral questions. Some didn't

i see this questions a bit old but i just had an interview with UPMC and the unit manager that interviewed me said that all of their hospitals use a standard form when interviewing. she read the questions directly from the form & filled it out as i answered. they were all those "tell me about a time when..." (ex. you had to multitask, you had to deal with a difficult patient, you felt overwhelmed, etc)

Cherry,

I know what you mean about reviving old threads, but yeah I think esp now it's a good one for input, so thanks for that run down.

BTW did you keep in touch with the recruiter or just wait for them to come to you? I hear different things about calling them vs waiting on them.

I have so many apps out there right now I'm losing track! I can hang on a bit but I'm losing patience. I grad in June too, passed boards in Sept. It has been frustrating. Good luck.

hey kitty... i had submitted about 50-75 applications online & never talked to a recruiter. the interview @ UPMC went well but i decided to accept an offer from a SNF anyway because i think itll give me a better experience. its so frustrating... it seems that most of the people that i graduated with ended up in LTC too. good luck!

Wow Cherry!

I hear you on the SNF, as I posted in another thread...I think that's the route I'm going to try to take too. A trusted recruiter that I talked to said it absolutely won't hurt in 6mos-1year to get back to a hospital, but to not stay longer than a year. She said the SNF's around here are v similar to step down units anymore. But she did say to stay away from assisted living types if you can help it. Heck, I see some GN's on the general board are taking retail positions, def not pretty out there.

Now with UPMC Braddock closing it's even looking less promising. So I think I've reached the end of my rope to hold on just a little while longer as that doesn't seem to mean end of this year or even January.

Excellent on the SNF job! Good luck to you.
