I have an inteview with UPenn next week for their GNP class of 2011 (yes, I applied really early!). I already have a BSN and have been working for a year as a RN in a hospital. Has anyone else interviewed with UPenn for one of their MSN programs that is already a BSN, RN? Just curious about the process, depth of questions, etc. Any information will be appreciated!!!! Thanks:)

Hello,

I hope this is not too late....I graduated from the PNP program at PENN in August 2009. I had a phone interview. I found that it was much easier to to interview on the phone. I was asked the same questions as an in-person interview " strengths, weaknesses, why did you apply to the program" . I was really excited and I just focused on my passion for the program and profession. They are really interested in you as a person and your unique experiences. I spoke in depth about my visit there and the honesty of the students within the program ( the students were not just recruiting you but were truthful about what the program had to offer). I also spoke about what I was looking forward to in their program and how PENN was different ( such as their clinical sites, and rigorous clinical training). By the end of the interview it felt more like a conversation and I took that as a positive sign. The GNP, FNP, ANP and PNP students had 1-2 classes together and from my understanding the GNP students loved the program. The faculty is extremely supportive. Good luck, you will definitely love PENN and what it has to offer.

Thanks for the response. I did have my phone interview and was accepted into to ANP/GNP program for May 2011. I have paid my deposit and can't wait to get started. I think it is a great program and actually enjoyed the interview. The interviewer answered all of my questions and it did feel more like a conversation than an interview. I am planning a visit in October!

What was the PENN interview like? I know for many of the CRNA applicants, they were expected to answer questions about pharmacology, clinical practice, etc. Was the NP interview similar in content? I'm just starting the application process for my MSN, and the interview portion has me STRESSED!

It was not nearly as stressful as I thought it would be. I was not asked questions that tested my nursing knowledge. The questions were about why I wanted to attend UPenn and what I planned to do with my degree. I was also given alot of information about the program and had all of my specific questions answered. My interviewer was easy to talk with and was genuinely excited about the GNP/ANP program, which made my decision to attend UPenn even easier. She did make some reference to my essays, so I was glad that I had them in front of me during the interview.

Just relax, be yourself and GOOD LUCK!!!!! I will be there May 2011! Hope to see you there!:D

Hi,

Nice to see you on this website.

I also did my interview for my MSN program few days ago.

My interview was like the conversation too.

I'm still waiting for the school's decision and cannot wait to hear the news from them !!

How long did it take to be informed the admission by the school?

It only took a week. They were very prompt. My interviewer told me if I did not hear back in two weeks to send them an email. But that was not necessary. What program are you applying for? I will be doing the ANP/GNP program.

I'm also applying for the ANP/GNP program !!:)

I had an interveiw on Oct. 6th.. so hope to hear from them soon ~

And hope to see you at UPenn!!

Thanks for your reply :redbeathe
