update on ca nclex endorsement to vt prior to expiration
october 8th, 2008

in this climate of immigration retrogression, it was recommended that california nclex nurses endorse to vermont prior to the expiration of the 3-year window of opportunity to provide ssa numbers to the ca state board of nursing. the vt state board reports that it has experienced an increase in endorsement requests as a result of this issue, leading them to review their policy and make some procedural changes, as follows:

Thanks for posting this.
For those that are reading this, things have not changed much from what was required in the first place to endorse to VT from CA. But do take note that the license from the home country is mentioned as being required.
Not sure if they are going to allow one without the local license to get licensed there any longer as they have in the past. If someone gets word from the VT BON directly, please post it in the sticky at the top of this forum concerning changes to licensing.

hi suzanne! do you have any idea if vermont BRN will stop accepting foreign applicants who have already passed the cali NCLEX after march 31, 2009? this is when all their nurses' licenses are goign to expire. any plans to stop accepting maybe? thanks!
The VT BON bases all of their licenses on a two year cycle, even those that are American; and they all expire at the same time. Every other year at the end of March. This has nothing to do with anyone being foreign, just how they handle their licenses there.
Every nurse that holds a VT license has an expirartion of 03/09. If it is newed then it will expire 03/11.
VT can change their requirements at any time and make things more strict just as many other BONs are doing, but they are not going to prohibit a foreign nurse from getting licensed there.
If you have at least ten months or so before your letter expires, then I would wait until after the March expiration so that you get close to the full 2 years and not just a few months on a license before having to pay a fee to renew it.
