Unsure on how to proceed into becoming a nurse

Published

Hi, sorry if the post comes out a little wonky I'm writing on my phone, anyways I just wanted to ask a question , just a little background I'm 19 and I graduated h.s and I wanted to take a few online classes before I started next semester.

I just wanted to know does it make sense to take a few classes now? Or would it be better to wait till the fall term . I just feel very behind I originally went to a college but dropped out a few months in . I couldn't handle working a full time job 5 days a week and a part time job on the weekends plus school 6 days a week. I'm planning to take English and bio online.

Thanks you for reading. I appreciate any answers

I don't know why you'd need to wait until the fall - I would definitely take at least an English class. Your bio class will most likely serve as a pre-req for A&P and micro, so that would be another good one to take it you're comfortable with the the online format. I've taken chemistry online while doing the lab in person and I enjoyed it, but I'm very motivated and loved having the lab professor as an in-person resource.

Has your work schedule changed now? If not, you may consider taking only one class. Online classes still require the same amount of studying as a traditional class, so you'll need to put forth the effort required. Good luck!

thank you for the advice really appreciate it, and yes my schedule has changed I quit my part time job but still work full time.

I would recommend easing your way back in with one class just to be safe. Even though you quit one job, you still have another one that I am assuming requires 32+ hours a week. Playing it safe allows you to build up your GPA and tweek your study habits and skills. Each person is capable of juggling different loads and I also think it is best to start off slow and go from there.

Keep in mind that each class is different and that study habits or course load will vary. Do not set yourself up for failure or disappointment. Strive to be the best student you can be and to understand the material. Best wishes!

Start slow while working full-time. People make it through nursing school working full-time (myself included), but it usually involves having a very flexible schedule.

You are still very young despite you feeling that you lost time. You still have time to get your goal going. You may need to start out with working part-time or nursing school part-time. If it is possible just go for the nursing full-time (you can start out slow for the first semester and than pick up the pace) and work less. Really evaluate your school schedule and try to take two classes a day,(group your classes). Don't take 1 class a day as you will not have any free time to study and working will be hard. Work on being confident that you can do it, eliminate barriers and just go for it. You can do it! What type of nursing are you interested in? Be careful about taking those online classes. Being in a classroom allows you the opportunity to be engaged with the teacher in a way that being online doesn't.

Start when you're ready to put the effort it requires to get good grades so you aren't back here in a year asking if you have any hope of getting into nursing school with 3Fs and 5 Ws ;)
