University of Washington's BSN program 2014

Published

Good morning!

So I'm going to try this whole process over again, as a repeat offender...I mean applicant for UW's BSN program 2014. I applied last year, made it through the proctored essay portion but was not accepted. After nursing (haha) my wounds w/ large amounts of ice cream, chocolate & such, I've recently found my mojo to try again. Anyone else re-applying or 1st time applying for 2014? I know it's extremely early in the game, but those deadlines come up faster than you think! I've saved all the tips applicants that have applied more than once and hope that 2nd time is the charm.

Anyone else out there getting ready for it? We got this :D

Nothing yet, but hoping JLoya & Sweet Disposition are right :) I'll probably start working on my checklist just in case. I can only do a couple of the thing since I'm not a student. What's meant to be, will be. Just gotta keep swimming, ya know ;)

Hello all, I was also accepted to the UW BSN program for fall '14. So nice to 'meet' you! Just_keep_swimming, I hope to see you at orientation. I put in a request to the FB group, as well.

I was also accepted to SU's BSN program and deliberated for quite some time before choosing UW. It appears to be a more rigorous program and I'm interested on going on to an ARNP and splitting my time between primary care and ARNP.

Finishing my compliance checklist now. Yeesh! Is it September yet? Got my patho and pharm texts from a recent grad yesterday am. so thick!

With excitement,

BB

Hope to be there too :) for those that are taking classes this summer, how are you liking it?

update? just_keep_swimming

Nothing yet, still #8...

IN summer classes. Finals next week, hence the reason I am wasting time on this site I suppose. It's been really great actually. I am SOSOSOOOSOOO glad I took these classes now. I cannot imagine having to take this one class on top of the other 4 next quarter- assessment is pretty easy though. I am looking forward to next quarter - sort of haha. I am scared but I think it will be ok. Getting all the clinicals stuff filled out for the site has been a lot of work but it'll be worth it. I hope to see you Just_keep_swimming, and don't worry about having not gotten in to the university, if you get off the waiting list they will get you in. UW is rather picky about getting in w/out being accepted to a program when you're around junior status.

I haven't heard anything from the list keeper on if I've moved spots since July, so not thinking it's going to happen. I'm glad you are enjoying the courses though, that's so exciting :)

Keep your chin up! If it's going to happen, now would be the time to see movement, right? People should be finishing up summer classes and getting final grades.

Well I'm going TDY to New Zealand & Antarctica (ironically on the day class would start) going to take that as my consolation prize unless a miracle happens ;) I truly appreciate everyone keeping positive thoughts, prayers, good vibes & fingers crossed for me and all the others on the wait list. I'm not giving up yet, but I'm trying to keep reality in my sights. I haven't decided if I will apply a third time or not, as I'm due to deploy in the spring if I stay active duty. If I don't get in, I want to say best of luck to each & every one of you! Do amazing things, I have faith you will ?

Sounds exciting! I would love to go to those places.

When does the fall quarter commence at UW?

Hello all!

So I am currently a freshman at Edmund's CC working toward my pre-nursing DTA. So far I have a 3.8 because I kinda screwed up in an online class and got a 3.4. I also work part-time at a medical massage clinic as a front desk administrator handling patient info and billing. I know that typically work as a CNA is weighed a little heavier when applying for programs but I worked as a care provider for about 4-5 months and ended up going backwards financially. Its disgusting how little they get paid and treated and I most likely will not seek work as a new CNA any time soon. I just recently landed a volunteer position at Group Health in their surgical recovery room and will be starting that soon. Apart from doing really well in school and racking up as many paid and unpaid hours in a medical setting as possible are their any other tips you may have to make me more desirable to UW?

  • Hi All,
This forum has been insightful for many things, but after speaking with the advisors and reading the posts I have so many questions and concerns! In particular I feel that I need honest feedback from the individuals who have been accepted into UW's BSN program or know a lot about the 'sifting' process (so to speak) for the BSN program at UW.

    Here's my information:
I attended UW and graduated with my BA (CHID) Major about 5 years ago. UW BA GPA- 3.3

In my last quarter at UW through I volunteered at SCH in the phase I and II recovery surgery recovery units as well as the PEDI E.D. (in 5 years including in Boston ~100 hours of hospital volunteer work).

I ended up moving to Boston for a job that I could not refuse. In Boston I run/ coordinate a research study for the Chief of Cardiology. I take full medical histories for the docs in our study and have been trained to do full physicals (listening to heart, lungs, etc.), council them on their medications and lab results, do basic vascular ultrasounds, draw blood, perform ECG's. My patients are absolutely wonderful!! I do not have my CNA license. I have worked as a pediatric phlebotomist (in-patient and out-patient) for 3 years.

For the past year and a half I have been doing my pre-nursing at a local community college (and working full time). My GPA for both the sciences and accum. is 3.85

I have really fine tuned my resume to be very nursing focused. All of my positions for the 10,000+ hours have been directly involved with nurses to provide care to patients and coordinating their care. My resume has been tune to be very specific on my interactions/ overlap with nurses.

One HUGE concern I have is that UW "strongly" recommends a letter of rec from an RN or NP...Mine will be coming from a chief of Cardiology. And frankly, I do not have a boss that is an NP or RN...Opinions???

My Questions...Do you think I will have a competitive application? What should I focus on to make it better? Should I take drug calculation before the proctored essay?

Anything at this point will be guide me.
