Hello! So I have not seen any posts about the ABSN program at UW for summer 2014 so I figured I would start one! This is my number one nursing school that I would like to be attend and I was wondering who else applied to this program !
Hi everyone! I was also accepted to the 2014 ABSN program and I'm so excited to move to Seattle! I live just outside Portland right now and I am somewhat familiar with the Seattle area. I would love to live within walking distance of campus so I'm considering university housing but I'm open to other suggestions! Definitely looking for something in U District though. Are any of you current students familiar with the options? I've done a little research and most buildings get mixed reviews. I was leaning toward a one-bedroom but two-bedrooms are so much more affordable! Any future students looking for a roommate? :)
So excited to meet you all!
Ann
Thanks for all the great advice macrina and abalone! That will definitely come in handy when looking for a place. I would like to live as close as possible to school (hopefully within walking/biking distance) but the tips about the bus line are great! It's so exciting to "meet" other people that will be in the program :)
So, I've read that we don't find out about our bost-bacc app acceptance to UW until May or June. Does that make it challenging to get our compliance things done in time?
Hey, all!
I'll also be starting in June! Super excited, and a bit nervous.
I currently work at Harborview as a CNA. I'm really hoping to be able to stay there for at least a few hours--does anyone know the feasibility of this?
Also--I'm in the process of getting a facebook group started--I think that might be easier way to get acquainted with one another before we start! For those of you coming from out of town--feel free to reach out when you're in town--I'm sure there are plenty of us who would be happy to show you around Seattle, it's a pretty great place!

Oops, sorry for the double post! --The facebook group is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/202030413333523/
Basically, if you're accepted by the program, there is very little chance you won't get accepted by the UW. Generally the only circumstance is if you don't meet UW minimum requirements, or have some sort of major red flags on your application.
Yes, I agree. Getting accepted by UW is just a formality. I've not heard of anyone not getting in because of that. All of us last year were waiting for a definitive acceptance letter to UW which never came, really. It was definitely anti-climactic. The big thing is getting into SON and then putting in your app for UW. I heard that last year some students didn't get in because they never put in their UW application, so just do it. But don't consider it at all likely (or possible, probably) that UW would reject you. You were smart enough to get through the app. process and get accepted, I'm sure you're smart enough to have made sure you've met UW general criteria.
Yes, it's feasible to work while in the program. I would start with only 2 shifts/month for the first quarter, unless you are a beast (some are!) and love to pile it on thick. Most people I know work 1 shift every 2 weeks and pick up a few more here and there. Seems like a good rhythm. First quarter is particularly hard/time-consuming, then you have a month off to work a lot if you want. 2nd quarter you can definitely work once a week if you want and 3rd quarter I would be very hard-pressed to work more than twice/month. I'd say maybe 20-30% of my class is working.
hi all! So happy to find this thread! I was also accepted into the ABSN program and just submitted my forms and deposit yesterday! I was wondering if any of you guys applied to any direct-entry NP programs? I've been accepted to a few programs, and while UW is definitely my top choice, it's also hard to decline a program where you graduate as a NP. Any thoughts? Regardless, I am so excited about UW and cannot wait to start!!!
