University of Texas at Arlington Fall 2020 Cohort

Published

Hello Everyone!!

It is finally my time to post to this forum! EXCITING!!! I did not see a thread for Fall 2020 and I might be SUUUUPER early but man that nursing application process takes proper a year doesn't it?

I am done with all my general courses and TEAS except for nursing chem, one elective (health and human disease), Patho, Pharm, and Intro to Nursing. I plan to take CHEM 1451 and HEED 4312 in the Fall 19 semester, apply in January, and then while waiting on that, take Patho and Intro to Nursing in Spring 2020 and Pharm by itself in Summer 2020.

I have an A in Micro, A&P 1, and A&P 2. This has been a LOOOONG journey and I cannot wait to start!

I could use some advice. I've no clue what cutoff scores are getting into the program (online). I also want to know how much working at a partner hospital helps. Is it just GPA & TEAS based ranking?

I don’t know exactly how much the partner hospital helps, from what I gather it’s a half point. Your overall GPA and your natural science GPA are added together - for example my overall GPA is 3.68, and my natural science GPA is 4.0, my ranking is 7.68, plus 0.5 for having 12 credit hours taken at UTA, plus by the end of Spring I will have 30 hours which is another 0.5.

According to my advisor, natural science GPA is the single most important factor in consideration for admission to the upper levels. As such, I’m about to get a B in micro so I’m going to retake it in the spring to recover my gpa.

So is there a max points or a minimum cutoff for admission?

I don’t know if there is a max, I do know that the advisor said 7.5 is considered the benchmark.

10 is the most that ANYONE can get and thats factoring in ALL considerations and perfect GPA, etc,. The cut off depends on the applicant pool. I think the last 4 applicant pools they have dipped into wait list (7.3 ish below) due to people not completing vaccinations.

Yikes! Glad my vaccines are squared away.

Oh for sure! I just finished off my Hep A and Hep B (childhood vaccines came back low immunity) and get titers redrawn next month, got my Tdap and flu shot, immune to varicella; im good to go!! They require all vaccines to be completed within I think 1-2 weeks of being accepted. TB needs to be completed AFTER you are accepted.

I have the BCG, so I get the quant gold or tspot drawn annually.

What are some easy upper electives to take?? I’m taking Patho & pharm in the spring so I need an easy class plz.

Easy is a relative term. Your elective is supposed to be what you do for fun. I am taking Health and Human Disease (HEED 4312) and it is a lot more writing than I thought but I enjoy it.

I was planning on taking WOMS 3305 cuz I heard it’s an interesting class but it’s full. And I don’t want to take a class that has a big workload since I’m already taking Patho & pharm together

Heya! I am saying this as someone that does not directly work with the BSN students (I work with MSN) but constantly overhear it. It depends on the applicant pool entirely. Also, they are starting the new 2020 Summer Campus starts so that may allow people who dont normally get in, to get in! TEAS scores to my knowledge have no pull on ranking. It is Science GPA based and your general course GPA. Also, keep in mind that campus will be less competitive than online.

Thank you for answering. I'd attend campus but I live in Houston.

Wait, they will start a summer nursing program?
