Hi,
I am thinking about applying to USI and George Washington University NP program partly because they are online and because they are two of the lowest cost programs I have found. What concerns me about USI specifically is that I have read that they program offers no help in finding practicum sites and clinical preceptors. For those who have completed the program or are currently in the program, how did you go about finding preceptors?
Thanks.

I don't know that I have any advice on finding preceptors, but I am also looking at USI and had not considered GWU. I just looked at GWU and I see tuition is $825 per credit hour while USI is closer to $300. I haven't seen anything cheaper that USI, but definitely saw a few cheaper than GWU if you're interested.
I am an OR nurse and I spend lots of time in the operating room with surgeons who have grown to like me, so I am planning to ask one of them to be my preceptor or to guide me to a preceptor. If you don't already have any relationship with any physicians or NP's, I imagine finding a preceptor will be challenging. Network!
Hi, Thanks for replying. I am trying to switch specializations. I think I will study FNP or ER, (not Neuro ICU, which is what I do now) because of future plans to work abroad. That is why I am concerned about finding preceptor. I should check with HR/professional development at my job to see if any assistance provided. What other schools are similar in price to USI?

There are no other school similar in price to USI. I applied for the fall 2014 and haven't heard anything yet.

I am a PMHNP and currently looking for preceptors. My preceptor info must be submitted 1 month prior to clinicals.
Ask the Mds you work with or search around for preceptors at other facilities.
