Hi everybody,
I am new to this board, actually I just become member yesterday (12/06/2009). I wonder if anybody in this board currently attend University of South Alabama nursing program (MSN-NP track)?. I got accept in Psy-NP track for spring, 2010. I have 10+ years experience as ICU RN in USA. Last years I change my nursing field from ICU to Psy nurse due to burn out and want to try something new and I absolutely love it. I was original from another country where English is not first language. I am kind of nervous because I heard that graduate program need extensive writing skills. I would like to know that which subject (courses) are require extensive writing assignment. Do this subjects require extensive writing assignment? Advanced Nursing Research, Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing, Advanced Nursing leadership Roles and Concepts, Health Care Policy and Economics, Advanced Nursing Assessment. Can anybody who used to attend this class in USA, please share their experiences about these class with me? And how hard it to get a pass grade (B). Thank you so much in advance. Pam
I too am interestedin the Emergency NP program. From what I have read on their website, the FNP and ACNP classes for this program are different than either individual program (look at the specific course descriptions for the FNP and ACNP and then the Emergency (FNP/ACNP). It looks like the progam directors are different as well. Hopefully someone who has gone this route will post. I am looking at applying for the Summer 2011 class.
I graduated from USA with my BSN in the regular track in 07. I tell you this was the WORST experience in my life!!!!!!!!!! The teachers read directly off the power points as mentioned before and you were left to teach yourself at home with your book! Clinicals were not a desirable learning atmosphere. You were so scared of your teacher that it impaired you from learning. I started the online FNP program since I figured it would work with my schedule. Please, the MSN program is a joke there. Even worse than the BSN program. Needless to say I am quitting the program and finding a college that actually wants to teach their students. The MSN program is cheap for a reason, you get what you pay for!!!! Take my advice and stay away from USA!!! Trust me, they respond to you when you are applying, but once you get in the program you are shut off from communication. They just don't care about their students!!!
I also applied for the MSN Women's Health NP program for Fall but I think my transcipt request are going to miss the deadline. If I start the Spring 2012 how long is the program? It was a bit confusing about only Fall having the orientation? I would love to hear any experiences people have had in the WHNP program.

I just dropped out of the ACNP program at USA. The classes were so tedious and so much reading. Way more than what I had expected and planned for. 6 chapters in the book, powerpoints and 90 study questions every 2 weeks. I feel like I just read it but did not retain or learn anything. Instructors and advisors are no help and seem like they could care less, if you finally do get a hold of one!!!! Would not recommend it. There has to be a better program out there!!
