Is anyone applying to USA for fall 2014.
I was also surprised to see the video regarding the clinical course- if you are doing the condensed schedule I see it being useful but it's a lot of information I'm just going to have to review when I finally start clinicals a year from now because I won't remember all the "one pager" and "two pager" differences, etc.
I have a MAC as well and plan to use it! That's all we have in the house- I'm gonna rely on it working - I absolutely do not care for PC. I could borrow one I suppose if need be but heaven help me use that lol. Also - we do not have clinicals the first year, at least not the first couple of semesters. The videos are a little overwhelming with all of the paperwork and finding preceptorship in all the different areas. That is the only thing that has deterred me from doing this sooner- finding people on my own to educate me while I pay the school kinda blows. I have heard all kinda of stories about difficulties finding clinicals - not all bad, not all good. I have not received a schedule either so just waiting. What is the cost per credit hr for online grad? I saw 485? Is that right?
Heather... the tuition is 481 a credit hour. I just registered for the 6 hours that was on my curriculum schedule. It came to 2,886. Plus some fees for a total of $3041 for the term. The 15% is $465.15 but since I can't afford out of pocket, I am getting student loans and that will cover the 15% as well as the remainder of the tuition due.
Also, the school is already affiliated with some sites for clinicals. Supposedly it is easiest to go with one they are already affiliated with, rather than arranging your own. Not sure if there is any close to you (I saw there are some in Ohio), but I'm in Florida and found quite a few in my area. Here is the link... http://www.southalabama.edu/nursing/documents/ClinicalAgenciesbyState_012.pdf
furthermore, i bought a macbook pro for FNP school. turns out - CAN'T USE IT!!!!!!!! so mad. gonna have to buy a crappy PC. anyone else do the same thing? (can't return it - it's beyond the 14-day return window).
I haven't done the orientation yet. Does it say the courses aren't compatible with mac? I didn't just buy mine but that's what I already have. I guess I will have to buy a new PC too if that's the case.
i'm watching the videos now. there's one module for AHN 569 - a clinical course. it's talking about all sorts of contracts with preceptors, time sheets, etc. to my understanding, that is not for us first semester students, is it? we aren't doing any clinicals right off the bat, right? that's for next year after we have gone to mobile for the clinical orientation. can anyone shed any light on this?also, has anyone gotten their personalized course schedule? i sure haven't. i emailed the academic advisor...
thanks.
I got my course schedule a couple days ago via e-mail. And mine was different then the schedule on the website as I'm assigned to take NU 608 this semester instead of NU 607. Also taking NU 545 as expected. I read of others that got their schedules last week or earlier. I'm surprised that students are still waiting this late in the game. It's pretty concerning. I hope you get yours this week so you can register and order your books.
The only way you would be doing clinicals first semester is if you got the condensed schedule. I haven't read of anyone getting the condensed schedule thus far. Someone else had posted that an advisor told them the condensed schedule was not available for the specialty I'm doing (psych). So it's likely, you will just have the standard full time schedule and start your clinicals with the rest of us in Fall 2015.
I believe the reason they have us watch the video on clinicals right away is because if you get a preceptor that is not clinically affiliated, you will need to submit that paperwork as soon as you can. A friend of mine graduated from here and said the approval process for non clinically affiliated sites can take months.
I plan on working full time the whole program too. But I switched jobs... Was working 3 12-hour shifts in a row 7p-7a and have switched to a job where I'll be working Monday-Friday 3p-11p. I figured I can have a more regular sleep schedule this way and be able to get more done. When I was doing my RN-BSN program, I had a hard time doing any school work on the 3 days in a row that I worked and then would usually need a day after to recover and catch up on my sleep. Hopefully this will be better for me and will be a better schedule for when we start clinicals next year. But yea, I think it's definitely doable, especially since we aren't doing the condensed scheduled. That probably would have been to intense.

Nothing yet for me. I'm getting beyond irritated. I figured a masters program would be just as nonsensical and require as much hoop jumping as any other nursing program, but so far this one takes the cake.
I seriously don't understand the wait. There are different tracks, and requirements for each. Our curriculum should simply be printing off the requirements for our track and path of entry (RN to MSN, BSN, other BA, or post grad). I'm just waiting for instructors to be frustrated that we don't have books the first two weeks of classes!
