University of San Francisco (USF) VANAP BSN Program - Spring 2022

Published

Hello everyone!

My name is Alyssa and I graduated from Vocational Nursing School 2 months ago. I've just submitted my application to USF's VANAP BSN Program in Sacramento about 5 days ago. I'm really worried because I was so different in college and my grades definitely do not reflect the person or student I am now. I wanted to share my stats and experience and see if others are also applying to this program and to compare stats/share experiences/lessen our anxiety about it! This is my top choice and I'm just so nervous and anxious because I really don't know if my GPA makes it possible to get into any program.

Stats:

Cumulative GPA: 3.2

Science GPA: 3.2

LVN Program GPA: 3.8, Magna Cum Laude, graduated in the top 5 of my cohort.

Experience: 960+ hours clinical experience, 1 year of ICU volunteer experience, current LVN working 30 hours/week with skills in med-surg, OB/peds, and mental health units.

I heard that they look heavily into your essays, and I truly believe I poured my heart out into my essays and tried to be as authentic as possible, however, I'm not sure if clinging onto my LVN experience and essays are enough to counteract my awful GPA. It just sucks because I took my pre-reqs at the beginning of college when I had such a different mindset and the bad decisions have followed me for the past 5 years. I've been denied school after school and I can't help but feel like I'm on the wrong path.

If anyone feels this way, please know you're not alone and I'd love to connect with you.

Hi everyone! I recently graduated from the VANAP program with a 3.77 GPA.

My application: 1st BS cumulative GPA- 3.5, 1 year clinical experience

As you can see, my GPA wasn’t that high. Additionally, although I had clinical experience when I applied, many people in my cohort did not have any, so this may or may not help your application. Perhaps my personal statements helped boost my app, but I cannot say for sure.

If you do get in, make sure you take philosophy, ethics, and theology prior to starting your first semester or else you will have to take these at a higher tuition cost at USFCA.

I would agree that the tuition costs are extremely high ~120k. Therefore, please do not make this program your only option as I feel there are better, more cost effective programs out there.

Finally, I honestly did not enjoy my time in this program as I felt that this was a rigorous self-teach program, faculty and staff were not very supportive, and we did not have the same resources as the main campus. However these are my experiences and other students may feel differently.

Let me know if you have additional questions and good luck with your applications!
