Hello everyone!
My name is Alyssa and I graduated from Vocational Nursing School 2 months ago. I've just submitted my application to USF's VANAP BSN Program in Sacramento about 5 days ago. I'm really worried because I was so different in college and my grades definitely do not reflect the person or student I am now. I wanted to share my stats and experience and see if others are also applying to this program and to compare stats/share experiences/lessen our anxiety about it! This is my top choice and I'm just so nervous and anxious because I really don't know if my GPA makes it possible to get into any program.
Stats:
Cumulative GPA: 3.2
Science GPA: 3.2
LVN Program GPA: 3.8, Magna Cum Laude, graduated in the top 5 of my cohort.
Experience: 960+ hours clinical experience, 1 year of ICU volunteer experience, current LVN working 30 hours/week with skills in med-surg, OB/peds, and mental health units.
I heard that they look heavily into your essays, and I truly believe I poured my heart out into my essays and tried to be as authentic as possible, however, I'm not sure if clinging onto my LVN experience and essays are enough to counteract my awful GPA. It just sucks because I took my pre-reqs at the beginning of college when I had such a different mindset and the bad decisions have followed me for the past 5 years. I've been denied school after school and I can't help but feel like I'm on the wrong path.
If anyone feels this way, please know you're not alone and I'd love to connect with you.

I don’t think your grades are bad. I had to retake some courses and they look at that I also applied for the VNAP
Where is the application did you put your experience hours?

Since you have actual hands-on experience with patients, it might be OK, and your LVN GPA is good too.
I also applied to Sac campus.
My stat - General 3.6 & Science 3.7
Not so good.
Got 2 years experience as MA. And 100 hours of volunteer (still working on it) currently working at the pediatric office.
On the resume I just put start to end date. Without putting hours.

Your college experience should not hold you back, especially because you showed an improvement in your LVN program. Your clinical experience is amazing too.
I also applied.
My Science GPA is 4.0
My general is 3.8 at Sac State for my Bachelor's in Anthropology, but 3.6 when I got my AA at community college. I had a rough time in my early college days, I managed to fix my GPA over a long time.
I do not have clinical experience.
December 10th feels like too long to wait ?

What are you talking about, your stats are amazing! It's awesome that your science GPA is higher than your general GPA as well. Also knowing you're already in the medical field gets you a boost as well.

OMG I totally agree! My friend who graduated from the program 2 years ago said she didn't get her acceptance letter until the day before Christmas! I'm trying my best to just forget I ever applied and the day I get a notification will be a pleasant surprise haha!
Also your stats are amazing! You already have a Bachelor's degree and your GPAs are insane. I have super high hopes for you!

Thanks! But they give priority to first-time bachelor seekers. So I expect I will be at the bottom of the list. It's all good though, I just hope I can be accepted either way!
What was your friends experience of the program?

She loved it! She said it's a super tight-knit class because of the fact that there are only 20 students per cohort. She said the teachers are also super involved as well. The only con she had was the cost of the program since it's around 120-140k without financial aid for the entire program. I'm not sure how accurate that number is nowadays since she went 2 years ago.

Yikes, yeah, I anticipate a large loan, but I guess it's OK! It's great to hear that the teachers are really involved and that it's a tight-knit program!
Thanks!

Same. It's a huge loan, but long as I get accepted, I won't have a problem with it?
By the way, I was looking at the previous post related to VANAP, and it seems like they would announce around near the end of November instead of the website mentioning that it will be announced around December.
I'm concerned about the personal statement and four prompts that we had to write. Mine looks like a research paper... I wasn't even sure about the format.
I wonder who will be the lucky 20 cohorts.

I can't even think about my statements, haha then I will just think about how I could have made them better!
I hope we find out at the end of November, that would be nice!

Of the 20 cohort admissions, I wonder how many are transfer students? I know Dominican is only admitting 17 transfer students.

Hello! Does Dominican take General Chem or would I need to take Organic Chem?
