Hi All,
Started this thread in anticipation of the March 1st deadline for applications to the University of San Francisco Nursing Program (Fall 2017). This is my second time applying and I am hoping is my last time lol. Anyways if you want to chat about the process don't be shy. I've been looking on past threads and was on one for last semester (Spring 2017) and found this to be helpful even though I didn't get in @USFCA. My stats are listed below if anyone is intrested to take a look. The only variables I have changed since my last application was me finishing psychology, art history, and california history.
Stats
I also volunteer at a local hospital once a week for 4 hours (Started last August). I have 4.5 years EMT experience. I'm only currently taking sociology for this semester and this will be the first time I've not taken at least 12 units at my community college. Look forward to your responses!!!!
No, I was hoping to converse with someone currently in the program, but no one has responded. I noticed there was a FB page for the Sac Campus BSN but it is private and it says for current students so not sure if they would have accepted me if I sent the request, so I didn't pursue it. I just wish I was able to know what a typical day is like there as far as start and end times. And which days or if it is a M-F schedule or what not so I can know what my schedule would kind of be like so our family can shift things around according since I will be commuting from the Fairfield area
I totally agree! My in-laws are from Vacaville, so I am familiar with that drive. I also would have to figure out childcare for 2 of my children, so it would be nice to find out sooner or later. I would love to have the childcare problem because that would mean I got into a nursing program!
Hello!! I am also a hopeful! I am not very confident in getting in this go around because I do not have the "other prerequisites" done. The ethics and english lit, and even stats! I would have 4 or maybe 5 classes to take on the side. BUT I do have pharm and pathophysiology complete and am a CNA so I am HOPING that they will still let me in this go around. If not, I am panning on taking those prerequisites at the JCs and reapplying. Nursing school is such a blast to try to get into! Do you all have those prerequisites completed? I am so sad I didn't know about them sooner, I would have been taking them along with all my other classes prior!
I have physio, micro, and human development that Im taking now so I will have my final grades next week sometime. Also those classes aren't prerequisites that you listed ethics and lit those are just degree requirements and are usually taken while taking nursing classes in order to maintain full time status. I asked CW this specific question before applying and that was her response. Good luck to you as well! Also if you look at the typical class schedule on the site those classes you listed are on the list in sophomore and other years.
I have all my prerequisites completed, but my second series of A&P is over 10 years old. Everything else is current. I don't know what my chances are. Does anyone know when we should expect to hear something? I found out about the program 1 week before the application deadline so I had to rush through the essays.
Oh sorry, you're right I used the wrong wording :) Yes, my official nursing prerequisites are done, but those classes are still needed for graduation! I went to the "open house" and they were saying how they don't like to see a lot of those listed classes (english lit, ethics, philosophy, stats...) outstanding and would rather you come in with only one or two needed. I figured I might as well give it a go however. I hope we find out soon, with this semester ending I am gearing up to take the dreaded TEAS, but would love to not! Good luck finishing your semester! That is a nice load of classes!
Well thankfully not much changes in A&P! :) I am kind of in your boat, my recommendation letter professor ended up getting very sick and was in the hospital and never got a chance to submit my letter. I thought it was taken care of months ago, back in early October! So I received a notification Monday before Thanksgiving, which turn made me talk to my original professor who apologized and said she would still try to get on in (turned out two days before it was due she was still too ill, not her fault but very stressful on my end!) so long story short I had to ask many professors (who were on thanksgiving break) to write a letter with a 24 hours turn around. I ended up also getting a co-worker to write one also. I am so sure that the letter is no nearly as good as I could have submitted, but I had literally 24 hours!!! But hey, nurses are supposed to work well under stress... so that was just great quick thinking on our rush to get essays in! They told me they are going to TRY to let us know before Christmas via snail mail. But she emphasize TRY... in the meantime, HAPPY HOLIDAYS! haha
There wasn't too much at the open house. I asked a million questions because like you, I knew nothing about this program and had just heard about a couple days before the open house. I asked where the clinicals are (martinez, for the first round and then mather, Shriners, and I think Mercy), what the average gpa acceptance (they said it is a range from 3.0-4.0), the class size (I think 40?), cost (I think it was 1200 per unit), % that passes the NCLEX (It was high, but not 100), ummm I think that was it. Ha, I was the annoying person who had my hand up all the time.
Martinez? As in the Bay Area? I wasn't expecting that!! I would also be one of those annoying people if I had known about it. I don't know why it's seemslike such an unknown program. You would think they would want as many people to apply as possible. I thought only 20 people made it in. I wonder why they send it snail mail instead of email.

No but judging from the main campus it can either be an email or letter. Some people have reported getting an email first whereas other have reported receiving the email first. Whichever one I'm hoping to know as soon as possible.
