Hi all!!! I know it is early but I thought I would start this thread. Is anyone else getting their information ready and applying for Fall 2016?
Yes! I am very happy. Im doing the MECN program at UCLA. I had a good amount of healthcare experience, I think? I have not started clinicals yet but it is a very tough program! My seed of wisdom is to be patient on your applications... you will get into the perfect program for YOU at the perfect time for YOU :)
During USD interviews I found faculty to be really friendly and students seemed really happy. They opened up some new research building as well.
message me if you have any other questions!
@Cali_21 did you happen to take Physio at UCLA? If so we may have been classmates. I am very happy that you are content with your program, I love hearing the medivac helicopter leave UCLA. What was your clinical experience? Other than patient interaction, how much is it helping you in your program? There is a certain peaceful confidence having clinical experience under your belt. One of my former tutoring students went through the program at UCLA, she loved it, but I believe she was also doing the MBA option. For me, an entry-level Masters program + MBA seems like an attractive offer. We all appreciate your input, I wish you continued success as a future colleague. Cheers

Thanks for your input on the USD interviews. Also, congrats on being in UCLA's prestigious MECN program. I've always wanted to apply, however, they require a few more prereqs that I don't have (O-Chem / Biochem / Epidemiology). A friend of mine went through their undergraduate program a few years back, where he was able to study abroad for a term and was assisted with his portfolio upon graduation. Being a UCLA grad, talking about his clinical and service experiences abroad, and presenting his portfolio at job interviews, he was able to land a prestigious nurse residency at UCSF in the pediatric oncology department. Good luck on the rest of your program and thanks again for chiming in!
jz16 said:Hey guys!Very excited to meet you all in February. Random question: does anyone have any idea how many applied / were invited to interview? I have no idea why but sometimes it makes me feel better to know!
@jz16 Historically, according to previous cohorts, it sounds like they invited 100 applicants for interview for 50 spots. Since they're accepting 60 ppl this upcoming cohort, there may be a few more applicants invited to interview this year. Sounds like a 2:1 ratio? When I called a few weeks back, they stated they were anticipating 400-500 applications. Hope this helps!
Just have fun! I've done two interviews so far and this will be my third. I know it's easier said than done but when you walk in, (depending on the person interviewing you) try to have a casual conversation first, ease the tension. Try to relate your answers to an experiences you had. It helps to make it more personal and also easier to answer the question.
I called today to ask for a couple more details and was told Thursday is the mandatory orientation and Friday would be the interview. If Baptist said no, then I would encourage you to call USD and attempt to arrange an interview for Thursday before or after the orientation. Not sure how flexible they can be but it's worth a shot. I hope something works out in your favor :)
