University of San Diego MEPN 2016

Updated:   Published

Hi all!!! I know it is early but I thought I would start this thread. Is anyone else getting their information ready and applying for Fall 2016?

Hi all!! I am kind of new to this website :) Basically I earned my BS degree in Environmental health engineering from another country and I heard about the MEPN program from one of my friends. Does anyone know if they would accept my bachelor ??

Thank you!

The best way to find out is to contact the school directly. It could depend on which country the degree was conferred in.

Hello everyone,

Congrats on all of you who got in! I'm planning on applying to this program in a yr or so I just have to take the science courses, though I already completed all other required courses. For those of you who got accepted what were your stats (gpa, volunteer/work experience, etc.) if you don't mind me asking? Only share what you would like. I live in San Diego and this has been my dream school for a while. Thank you so much. Your information will greatly help me as well as others.

Try to have your GPA over 3.5 to increase your chance and volunteer at a local hospital.

Hey Vanessa!

As previously mentioned, definitely try to keep your grades up, especially in the prerequisites. I would say a 3.5 is a good thing to aim for, but I've read that folks definitely get in on many sides of the spectrum.

BUT that being said, when I interviewed I really really felt like USD was one of the most holistic schools I encountered during my nursing school application process, which is why I chose to attend. I really feel that your essay and how you can speak to your experiences in healthcare (or outside of healthcare) hold the most weight to them. My interview was also very conversational and relaxed, and I ultimately think who you are as a person holds much more weight than just your grades. When I was applying I was super concerned about "stats" and all that nonsense, but don't be!

Since you live closeby it might be a good idea to start going to open houses, chatting with current students (if you know any) about their experiences, and either volunteering or getting a job in a healthcare setting.

Good luck!

Hi everyone!

I'm super late to this, but could someone tell me where to find the fb group please? :D

Hello! Congrats on getting an interview for the 2017 cohort! It is an exciting time! I know you're probably anxious and nervous as the rest of us were when we were all in your shoes.

The invitation for the interview is a 2-day process: Thursday & Friday. On the first day there will be an orientation and will have a meet & greet with one another, current students & staff. In addition, you will be able to ask current students about their current experiences in the program and any other questions and concerns.

On day two, there will be interviews, a tour of the stimulation lab, as well as a financial aid workshop. Interviews are held throughout the day: 9:00-3:00 (from what I remember). I honestly do not remember anything about my interview since my interview was more conversational. However, just be confident. This is the time for you to shine so you can get chosen for the program!

Goodluck!

Thanks for the tip!! It's nice to hear that the interview is more conversational and not as intense!

I definitely recommend you to apply for Fafsa, since they do offer various loans. I currently have USD's grant, graduate plus loan & a unsubidized loan. There will be various of scholarships that will be offered throughout the time you're at USD, and definitely apply to those!
