University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

U.S.A. New York

Published

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Hey veebeeG,

me and you are on the same boat :( When I called admissions she stated that about 25 people were put on the waitinglist. She also told me that about 310 people applied and the only accepted 56 students. Hope that helps and I will keep my fingers crossed for us!

Hey SON14,

I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for the both of us as well :(! Let me know if you hear anything. They said it could take anywhere from now until January 2nd >_

VeebeeG,

Yes I applied to the University if New England and I am accepted. If I don't get accepted off the waitlist I will be going to UNE. It is a longer program 17 months :/ but at least I have a school to go to. I really want to go to Rochester. I start at UNE December 16 so hopefully they let us know before :/

VeeBeeG and SON14,

If you guys don't get pulled off the waitlist for the Spring cohort, would you be opposed to waiting until Summer? I asked Elaine and I seem to recall that she mentioned that applicants who don't get accepted the first time are automatically considered for the next cohort.

Can someone else verify this?

Yes Your application gets rolled over. You have the opportunity to submit a new personal statement, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. We don't have to pay the fee again.

Can anyone who went thru the program or is in the program, comment on the medical and dental benefits offered by the school? I am trying to decide if waiting to fill two cavities and place a crown would be cheaper thru UR than my current dental insurance.

Hi URredux... I am planning on keeping my current insurance (not switching to the student plan) so I don't know a lot about it... However there is a dental center affiliated with UR... It might be worth calling them to ask. :-) The only thing I was thinking might be a problem about waiting to have your dental work done is that I know we will be very busy starting in Jan. and it might be tough for you to schedule an appointment. Good luck!

Just got accepted off the waitlist for the ABPN Jan. cohort. Just wondering if anybody knows how many people got the scholarships/grants. Did not receive any! What other financing options are available other than govt. loans. Any info would help

2012 perhaps,

The info on the page below indicates 15 students get the scholarship. I'm not entirely sure if the 15 recipients are spread out between the 3 cohorts (5 per cohort), or if it's 15 per cohort for a total of 45. The former seems more likely.

Everyone that has gotten into the program, please check out the facebook group 'ABPNN University of Rochester - Jan. 2012 start date'. A few of us have joined the group and it's a great way for us to get to know each other before classes start in January =)!

Hey Everyone,

I just applied to the May cohort and had my interview scheduled on the same day that they received my application. Does anyone one if this is a good sign/something to read into?

Also does Anyone have any advice for my upcoming interview? What I should/shouldn't emphasize?

Congrats to all who have been accepted for January!

Thanks!

Well, it seems like a good sign to me! If you were invited for an interview, it basically means you have the qualifications for acceptance, but they want to make sure you are a good fit.

My interview was over the phone, but from my experience (and from what I've read about others) it was very laid back and conversational. The interviewer is just trying to get a feel for you, not trying to trip you up. It lasted about 30 minutes, and the questions were ones you would expect - Why nursing?, Why U of R?, What does being a nurse mean to you?, etc...if you look back on this thread a couple pages you will find the exact questions posted.

My advice - be calm, answer the questions honestly, and most importantly, just be yourself!

Good Luck...you will do fine!! (And thanks for the congratulations!)
