University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

Published

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Hey everyone. I could not wait and ended up calling. I got into the Bachelors program but not the Masters. I am now weighing my options so I am not sure if I will be attending.. Best of luck to all and congratulations.

I ended up calling too...I got put on the waitlist, not terrible, but still a disappointment. I thought I had pretty good stats and experience, and my interview went so well, my person even told me I had great answers to all the questions. Not really sure what went wrong, but I am tempted to call again and ask why and how I can improve for future reference. I'm hoping for the best so keep your fingers crossed for me! You all sound like a fantastic group of people and I'd love to be in a cohort with you all!

URHopeful - Don't get discouraged...I have just graduated from the UR program, and I can tell you that it is completely worth it to just start with the Bachelor's program. I too was considering going right into my masters degree right after I graduated. After talking to many nurses and instructors, I found that most people suggest getting some experience for at least a year before starting your masters degree. If you do the Bachelors program first, work for a year, and then decide you still want your masters, then you can always go back to school and get it (and you'll get tuition benefits if you work first too!). UR is a great program and I highly recommend it, even if you can only start with the Bachelors degree.

Thanks for the encouragement becs132!!! I am just concerned that I will not have the grades to get into the NP program b/c I heard it was really hard to get good grades. Is this true? I would like to go to U of R but I do not wanna mess up my chances for later on. Thanks for the kind words for you made me feel a lot better since I was becoming discouraged. I think I am going to think more about U of R b/c I keep hearing great things about it. Thank you.

I don't think you should be discourages either URHopeful! You just have to weigh your options. Did you get accepted to a masters program elsewhere? If not, I'd say go for the bachelors at UR. I'm sure the classes are definitely tough, but if you put your mind to it you will persevere!

hi xoxjedixox, i am sure you will get off the waiting list soon. not everyone who got accepted are going to go. many people apply to several schools so chances are only half the people who got accepted will actually go. i will keep my fingers crossed for you. best of luck.

Thanks URHopeful! It's my dream school so I'm hoping for the best! Best of luck with your decision as well!

URhopeful - There is no doubt that UR is a challenging program but so worth the challenge and certainly not impossible (nor near impossible even) to get good grades! Obviously, the grades come with time and effort so you have to be willing to commit yourself, but good grades are definitely not impossible to achieve. Also, the instructors you are working with and who are teaching you are those that either have their masters, teach in the masters program, or will be writing you a letter of recommendation for the masters program...so you do get an added benefit of working with them and getting to know them on a personal level. And it seems to be that if you do well in school, and have good recommendations for the masters program, and decide you still want to do that right away (after you finish bachelors), then you can always re-apply with probably a better chance of getting in having gone through the UR program.

Thank you for your advise and I am heavily thinking of going to U of R. I already turned down all the rest of my acceptances b/c I really think U or R will be worth it and I do not think I wanna go through the applications again. LOL Thank again.:D

Thanks becs132,

I agree, I think it is attainable and worth it. Best Wishes
