Hi all,
I did not see another forum for the U of Rochester ABPNN Spring 2020 (January entry) yet, so I figured it would be a good time to make one since we will all be submitting our apps soon! Has anyone submitted yet?
I'm open to share my application.
I applied with a terrible undergraduate GPA of ~2.9 for my B.S. where I majored in Biology/Chemistry. I did some post-bac work with a GPA of ~3.5 to help repair my overall GPA.
I have 12 years of experience in emergency medicine working as an Army Combat Medic and also working in civilian EMS.
I guess a take away from my application is that GPA is only one facet of the total application.
I have to agree.
I did dual enrollment in High School where I graduated with my Associate's and HS diploma. My GPA for my Associate's degree was a 2.7. I was able to graduate my Bachelor's in 2 years with a overall GPA of 3.5, my pre-req GPA was a 3.0 (I failed anatomy the first time, my school does A & P separate).
But I have over 3 years volunteering in a healthcare setting, 1 year as a CNA, internship experience in substance abuse, another in health administration, I was also a RA at my university, and an instructor for summer camp.
My main point was how I accomplished so much in a short amount of time and how all my experiences have shaped me.
Congrats future classmates!
Same type of story here.
Overall GPA when added up was 3.29. (graduated back in the day with a 3.1) Someone might say my resume is a little scatterbrained, but I tried to paint a picture with my experiences. I tried to convey why they will led me here and how they help me going forward. 2.5 years ER technician, 3.75 post bacc, Veteran, references from charge nurses that really know me.
Any advice from locals where to live? What might be available? Van by the river?
Hey sorry for the late responses for anyone but I was asking to specify because I wasn’t sure what you wanted to know exactly and wanna answer in my best way possible! So I had about a 3.1 or so Overall gpa since college career. One thing I think helped me was my good grades in the prerequisites. I had nothing lower than a B in all of them. Mostly A’s. My gpa was bad freshman year so I always thought it would lay me down. But I guess they look at the progress. I also did horrible on my phone interview!!!! I felt so nervous and lost hope after. But look at God! If you have any other questions lmk love.
I’d say I have a pretty diverse background too.
I graduated 9 years ago with my BS at a 3.5 gpa, post bac studies/prerequisites 4.0 gpa (which I’ve done within the last year). I have 3 years of sporadic inpatient and out patient psych experience (all at the same facility, but due to my husband being on active duty we were constantly moving & fortunately they always welcomed me back). I completed my CNA for a different school a few years ago, but never directly used it. I’ve been a SAHM the past 5 years, but have made sure to stay active in the community, volunteering, and holding several board member positions. My recommendations came from the Psychiatrist and PMHNP I worked for. I applied for the NP program, but haven’t gotten a final decision.
Did anyone else apply for the NP program?
They must have a thing for well-rounded students ? that's refreshing! My GPA wasn't the best either...2.9 cumulative, 3.8 for the last 60 units or so, and about a 3.0 for prerequisites. I was a CNA for a year, have been a physical therapy aide for 3.5 years, and am currently a phlebotomist in a trauma center, and have been for about a year now. I have also worked with autistic children in a behavioral therapy position. I feel like my life expereinces have challenged me and allowed me to learn so much! Specially working with just about every age of the population. ? best of luck to all in the program! hopefully ill be joining you in May!
