University of Phoenix MSN Program

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

:welcome:

I would like to use this thread for all of us attending or having attended UofP.

I am going to begin classes in August of this year in the MSN/ED program.

I would love to hear from different people who are in different stages of the program and what they have liked and hated.

I AM NOT INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT GONE THROUGH THE PROGRAM AND ONLY WANT TO SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT THE SCHOOL.

I hope other U of P alumni will get involved and help us with any sticky situations that arise and offer their wisdom.

Thanks,

Hello fellow UOP classmates. I have been away from the forum for a while. I was one of the early posters in this thread. I am on my way to finising my MSN/ED. I have just finished my last core course. Now I move on to my education courses and the second half of my nursing practicum. To those of you with apprehension about the online format. I wouldn't be where I am without it. The flexibility has allowed me to work around some pretty intense life events. I am looking forward to traveling to Phoenix in July for commencement and induction to Sigma Theta Tau at one of the area colleges. The budget won't support two trips to Phoenix this year...got a loan to pay off...LOL, but every cent of it worth it.

Good luck to everyone starting out, on their way, or almost done!!

Congratulations...! I remember those feelings when I was finishing up my BSN at Phx. I think those last couple of classes were the toughest! Good luck on your practicum. I need to start thinking of what I am going to do for that as well!

hi univeristy of phoenix friends,

this is my first time posting in this particular forum. i am a msn/ed grad student at the uop-online. i have been very pleased with the program thus far. i have to say it is a challenge, however very convinent in regards to a working adult with a family, etc. i started the program in november 07 and will be starting my 5th class tuesday (nur 542/dynamics of family systems). anyone taken this class yet?? if so, how was it?? sometimes i find it very difficult to keep up with all the reading assignments. professors thus far have been great if you keep in close contact-in letting them know if you are getting behind, etc. professors expect all work turn in to be at a graduate level. i have not taken a break since i began...i think i am long over due.

talk soon,

praise,rn

Hello, I just finished Dynamics a little over a week ago. It was ok...my instructor was very nice...contributed a lot to the discussions. I started Influencing the future of nursing (531) this past tues and it's begun at a very fast pace. Teams were assigned on Day 2 already, and 1/2 the people hadn't shown up yet or had withdrawn...there is so much to read...it's very overwhelming. Good luck in Dynamics. 531 is my 5th class. I just take it week by week.

hello,

hi

are you planning on taking a break after this class? i just finished the msn program. it took me a bit longer to complete because i took breaks. the pace of the courses are intense and taking one class after another gets to be quite burdensome; especially if you are working full time and taking care of a family. i found that taking breaks in between 3-4 classes helped me to refresh my mind and prepare me for the next 4 classes.

good luck to you, remember, you need to take care of yourself.

Has anyone taken HCS 571- Financial Resource Management.

This is my 6th or 7th class, it is a killer. I have no financial background, and we have to develop a business plan complete with all the financial stuff. My GPA is 4.0 to date, but to be honest, I will be happy to get a B in this class.

That one and NUR 587 Leadership and Management in nursing were two of my favorites. They were busy courses, aren't they all...LOL. But I found 531 very enlightening about my power as a nurse and how I can be more politically active as an individual and as part of nursing as a whole. I found the personal leadership plan assignment in 587 to be a turning point in my professional development. It really made me think about where I want to go and how I am going to get there.

As for Bryan's question about the finance class, that was the only one that made me question if I had what it took to finish this program. I thought I wouldn't get through it, but I did, with my GPA intact:D

Hi UOP friends,

I am scheduled to take NUR/590A -NURSING PRACTICUM-A in about 5 weeks. Has anyone taken this course yet? If so, how was it. The course outline looks very challenging? Will I be required to collaborate with a MSN/PhD prepared nurse (mentor) at a universlity, hospital, clinical setting and/or nursing facility? I need to know should I start searching for a professor or instructor early to get his/her permission to work with him/her (planning ahead). I really need help guys, comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Praise, RN

UOP Friends,

Is anyone a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC) or know someone who is? I was looking at the course offered by: Vickie L. Milazzo, RN, MSN, JD. I've always wanted to do consultant work related to nursing practice and this seems like a very appropriate way to add to ones knowledge as an advance degree prepared nurse once completing the uop MSN program. Any comments or suggestions especially from indiviudals who are certified and/or know someone who is (especially pay rate particularly North Caroina or your geographical area).

Your colleage,

Praise, RN
