I would like to use this thread for all of us attending or having attended UofP.

I am going to begin classes in August of this year in the MSN/ED program.

I would love to hear from different people who are in different stages of the program and what they have liked and hated.

I AM NOT INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT GONE THROUGH THE PROGRAM AND ONLY WANT TO SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT THE SCHOOL.

I hope other U of P alumni will get involved and help us with any sticky situations that arise and offer their wisdom.

does anyone have any ideas for doing the nursing practicum?? i am in the on ground program...i currently work in l/d ?? thanks

Maybe doing sometype of staff/mother-baby educating in relations to the psychological/physicalogical aspects of the birthing process. Educating apprehensive moms/dads, particularly first time familes, in dealing/understanding the whole birthing experience. Just a suggestion...Hope this helps.

I am so glad I found this site, primarily about UOP. I am have a BBA in business and an ADN. Been an ICU nurse for last 13 years. My boss is just finishing her MSN with UOP. She was nothing but complimentary about their program. Got me all psyched up. I called the school and was bowled over that I only needed 3 bridge classes before jumping right into the MSN program. In the seven days since that conversation with UOP counselor, I am now scared to death about UOP. People are making me feel it is a sub-standard school. That I would be wasting my money. They referred me to websites online that just scared the code brown outta me. Can't get in touch with professors, horrible group learning environments with leeching non productive, illiterate people in group, financial screw-ups. It was non stop unreal horror stories. I have to admit it almost sounds too good to me. Help me!! Please tell me your experiences. I was already to get started as soon as possible in 2008.

I am a second year grad student at the uop (2008' MSN/ED). My experience has been wonderful/challenging. I have never encountered a problem contacting any of my professors from day one. Each professor's contact numbers will be available on every course syllabus and email as well. It is encouraged that you utilize the (email) as most professors within that same business day will respond to any questions from students. I have never went more than one day without a response to any questions that I've had. Online learning is more challenging than a traditional Master's program, as one is required to be very structured, pritorizing life events around assignment due dates, etc. Actually uop is one of the best online graduate programs that one can complete his/her degree. Most traditional universities Master's programs have implemented online degree programs now as well, particularly to market with the other online programs, as this is the modern way for working-committed adults to obtain their education.

Be prepared to be challenged in your thinking, writing, research, graduate level standards is a must! The nursing graduate school is very big on incoorporating scholarly writing into individual/team papers, projects, etc. Graduate level standards will be inforced without compromise. Team assignments are a challenge in that some individuals may not be structured enough and/or able to function at a graduate level and usually drops the course or fails. Professors do monitor team participation, effort with assignments, and quality of work contributed to a team/individual assignment. The team is also responsible for reporting and completing team evalutions for each team assignment. Plagarism is grounds for dismissal from the program. As far as a sub-standard school, the uop nursing school is fully accredited just as any other graduate nursing program and their graduates rank very high in the work-force clinically and academically, in comparison with traditional universities graduates. Currently the chief nursing officer at the university hosiptal I work part-time is a UOP alumni. Actually the uop graduate nursing program is more difficult than most of my colleagues who are doing traditional route for their Master's, in regards to course expectations and course content.

Lastly, think really hard concerning life events now personally and ponder if you will be able to committ to being online for mandatory partcipating 4 out of 7 days every week, including answering/responsing to professors, colleagues disussion questions, completeing individual/team assignments and online chapter readings, etc., while maintaining a family, etc...This will determine your success or failure! The program is expensive, so be focus from day one. Personally, I am single and have no kids right now, which has helped tremendously in my academic success, however many of my colleagues do have families and I can feel their fustration in every class.

I have also been pre-offered from 3 different BSN America's top traditionally universities to come on staff now as adjunt faculty and full-time offers upon graduating from all three. I declined currently due to it would be too much right now with classes, but after graduating I have so many options as an advance degree nurse educator/professional nurse.

Hi all,

I will be starting my fist UoP graduate level MSN-bridge course, HCS-504 Introduction to Graduate Study in Health Services/Nursing class on March 10, 2008 and hope to do well in the course.

I will be moving from Detroit (Metro)-Michigan to Tucson-AZ in early April 2008 and will be working parttime and taking two online classes at a time to complete the program in about 12-13 months total.

The UoP Tucson-AZ ground campus has a MSN-FNP program that I plan to transfer into in the near future if possible.

Allnurses please Pray for me and my success in the online UoP MSN program.

I started this thread 18 months ago, and this week finished my MSN. I went through with no breaks, and it flew by. I am glad to have it behind me, but the experiences were great!

I am in the process of starting the MSN program with the University of Phoenix and in 12-24 months, I too hope to be done with the MSN-FNP program.

Please PM me with any suggestions for study.

I will be completing the CAMPUS based program vs the ONLINE program and that is because of my MSN-FNP Family Nurse Practitioner goals.

I too am currently in the MSN/Ed track..Does anyone have any advice/samples regarding the practicum for NUR 590B and research utilization NUR 598. I am actually taking NUR 598 now and 590B to follow..it truly is challenging the way it is set up with these two classes back to back. At time I just want to give up!! any word/suggestion for encouragement or advice would be greatly appreciated. HELP i'm on the verge of a collapse :cry::crying2:

What in particular do you want to know about the practicum? It depends upons what you like to do and something that would be interesting and not to difficult to complete. Remember what ever you choose for your practicum and once it is approved by faculty you are responsible for completing it. I would say choose something that is fun and exciting!

I don't get to check in here too often, with all of the school work! I've completed 5 classes, and it has been a great learning experience. I have not had any issues with faculty. There have been some students whose writing skills make me wonder how they got this far in a graduate program. But it seems like the instructors are focusing on good writing skills and raising the bar lately. Maybe there has been feedback that some students cannot write a correct sentence.

After some soul-searching, I am changing from a MSN/MHA degree to an MSN/Ed. I don't think I have the personality of an administrator, and in my heart, I would love to teach nursing. With the shortage, it will be much needed. My counselor has been helpful with the switch. The 5 classes I have taken will not transfer, as they were all MHA courses, so it's like I'm starting from the beginning again!:bugeyes: But since the MHA was 51 credits and this one is 42, it will only take me 6 weeks longer than it would have if I stayed with the original plan.

To anyone considering the program: if you are truly committed to achieving the goal, it will be fine. Anyone thinking this is an easy way to get a degree- you will be surprised. It takes planning and diligence especially with work and a family.

I'm going to get some housework done while I wait to start my next class April 1st. I feel like a have a load of time without any papers due!!
