University of Minnesota Master of Nursing Applicants??

Published

Hi all! Just curious if anyone out there just submitted an application for the University of Minnesota Master of Nursing program (Fall 2014 start)? I have been taking prerequisites for this program for years, and I cannot believe the time has finally come to put my hat in the ring. The program only has a 20% acceptance rate, so who knows... But I know I worked my butt off to become a good applicant. Very nerve wracking though. Anyone else going through the same waiting game?

Congrats on finally getting here MNTB! I submitted the last bits of my application on the 14th. Good luck to you! I didn't realize they had such a low acceptance rate, but it makes sense considering what a great program it is. Any idea when they usually start doing interviews?

Nevermind, I just looked it up. Looks like mid-late February and we can expect to find out whether we were accepted in mid-late March.

Hi CNMhopeful! I can't believe someone actually responded to my thread! Yeah, I think interviews are early March and acceptance emails are sent out late March. I'm so nervous about missing an email from them! Don't forget to check your spam folder! Did you/are you planning to apply to any other programs? Where have you been doings your prereqs?

I got the 20% rate because they seem to get about 300 applicants and accept about 60. Maybe they'll start accepting more though.

I'm doing my pre-reqs at Harvard Extension School now, but I did some in undergrad too. Are you in MN now? I can't stop thinking about whether I'll be accepted, where/when I'll be moving, how long I'll be in school, how much debt I'll incur, etc. Such a long way to go!

Yep, I'm in MN now. So I imagine you applied to a bunch of schools throughout the country? I really only applied to this program; if I don't get in I'll do an associates program at my local community college.

That's smart. I applied to 5 schools. I figured I'd give it one good shot, and if it doesn't work out this time I'll re-assess my options. I'll be done with pre-reqs after this semester at least, so I won't have to worry about that anymore! I was kind of hoping to go somewhere closer to home (Florida), but most schools in the south do not offer any sort of direct-entry option. I've been told many times that Minneapolis is a great city, and they happen to have a great nursing program as well!

I applied as well! They said we should know by March 7th if we get an interview. Let me know if anyone gets good news!

March 7th can't come fast enough for me. I am checking email compulsively anyway, in case they let us know earlier.

I applied too. It's March 7th at 2:22pm and I'm thinking that I didn't get an interview. This is seriously the biggest disappointment in my life. I spent so much time and money going back for prerequisites. All for nothing. Now I'm still only qualified to make no more than $35,000 per year with my BA in Psychology and I have about $60,000 in student loan debt. Sigh.

I haven't heard anything either! Has anyone else?

Maybe this is just some cruel trick and they won't actually get around to notifying people until next week. I'm guessing that if you don't get an interview, they won't e-mail us to let us know.
