University of Miami

Published

Hello.. I just applied to the University of Miami's accelerated BSN. I am super nervous because it is the only school that I applied to. There is an early deadline and a late deadline. I applied to the early deadline. I have all of the prerequisite but I am worried about my GPA.

As of now, I have an overall GPA of 3.02 and a prereq GPA of 3.2

At the end of the semester my grades are going to be up, i think overall 3.13 and prereq 3.5

I am wondering if this is good enough to get into the program with what I have now. I am sure they will judge me off of my GPA now and not at the end of the semester since they are making decisions within the next week or so. If anyone has any thoughts or advice I appreciate it. I am driving myself crazy!

Hi,

I applied as well and my G.P.A is about the same as urs. I also applied last year but I didn't get in. However, I applied right before the late deadline so that may have been the reason. I heard of other people that had 3.0 and they got in but they applied for the early deadline. I am hoping that since this time I applied for the early deadline it will make a difference.

BTW...what do u do now?? Have u finished all of ur pre-req's??

Let me know when you hear something and I will do the same. Be blessed!!!

Tracie

Tracie, I am hoping that is the reason you did not get in. I applied for the early decision, I wonder when we find out. I am biting my nails everyday. If you do not mind me asking, what is your GPA overall and prereq?

Yes, I have finished all of my prereqs and will finish my bachelors degree in Business from UF in May. How about you?

I am hoping that is the reason as well. It is definitely nerve racking. I finished my pre reqs in May of this year but I graduated from college over 4 years ago. Currently, I am a teacher and I am praying this is my last year.

My overall G.P.A is a 3.3 and my pre-req GPA is a 3.4.

Is UM the only school you applied to??

Wow, you didnt get accepted with a 3.4?? That is BAD news for me! UM was the only schoolI applied to until today because I started getting nervous! I just applied to FAU accelerated program and I am thinking about applying to Barry also. How about you?

Don't take it as bad news...I truly applied late and by that time I believe the class was full. Of course they didn't tell me this but according to a friend of mine that graduated from the accelerated program in May...more than half the class was accepted when they applied before early decision.

I applied to FAU last year and didn't get in as well. I was going to apply this year however since I took the HESI test in Jan of this year there is a rule that you can take it twice within 12 months so I can't apply again. But that's ok because I really didn't feel like traveling to Boca everyday and I live in Miami.

Study for the HESI test because you have to take it since your applying to FAU. You must score over a 80% in each area to even be considered for the program.

I don't know. I'm just impatient and tired of waiting already. That is awesome that you know someone who was already in the program. How did he or she say it was? Doable obviously, but was it so intense that he or she was always study? Was she able to have a life at all? Do you know if she got the scholarship? Sorry for all the questions...

I know what u mean about being impatient. That is how I was last year when I applied and when I didn't get accepted I was really upset. Now I realize I can't send myself crazy because at the end of the day God is in control.

My friend said the program was really intense but definitely doable. She said you have to stay on top of the reading cuz that is how people fall behind. However she did have a life but u have to be smart about managing ur time.

Did you call and find out when they were sending out letters?

How come you didn't do the nursing program at UF??

I didn't go to UF because I live in Pembroke Pines now. About 30 mins from Miami. I love UM and have always been a Hurricane fan. I didn't call them to see when they are sending out letters. I did call to ask if could reapply if I didn't get in through early decision for the regular deadline but, Ms. Cabrera is extremely busy and the lady at the front desk didn't know anything. When did you find out last year? That is a good idea to call and ask when the letters are going out. Maybe it will allow me to be less impatient. I talked to one of the transfer admissions counselors and she said that my files had been sent to the dept and they should be making decisions in a couple of weeks. No idea what that means but, like you I would be extremely upset if I didn't get in. How did you apply to last semester if you are still finishing your prereqs?

The best way to reach Ms. Cabrera is to email her. I was able to apply last semester because I was finishing my last pre-req. I found out in mid March that I was not accepted but I didn't apply until January. I was told from other students that applied for early decision that they found out before Christmas. I truly hope I find out by then.

I actually callled myself and they told me the same thing they told you.

I called today again to ask when the letters would be going out for early decision. They said either January or February depending on how quickly your advisor makes a decision. I really was hoping to know before the holidays!1

Tracie, I found out today that I got accepted to the program. I found out by looking at myum.edu but, they said I should get a letter in the mail soon. I really hope you get in also!! We would already know each other! I am so happy. Let me know when you hear any news. GOOD LUCK!
