Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey guys! I know it's early but I thought I would start this. Has anyone applied to this program yet?

Thank you for sharing! I appreciate hearing someone else's experience. Just to be clear, 'Mid-April' is a comment on the facebook page, I don't have evidence that UM reported that timeline.

Another school I got into sent me the financial aid package just days after my acceptance email. At the moment, I need to respond to UM by March 18th yes or no, but it's simply not a decision I can make without seeing financial aid package to determine:

Will federal loans be ample enough to cover all of tuition & also living expenses?

What can my budget for housing be?

What will my personal contribution need to be?

Will I need to pursue private loans?

It feels like such a big deal with a rapidly approaching decision deadline followed quickly by a move across the country to attend.

Sounds like we are in the same boat! I plan to call financial aid this week.

@student22 I just received an email from UM with subject "Get Ready for UM Nursing: Financial Registration". I opened it hoping there would be some information about financial awards but no. It's just saying that registration for the program is starting April 12. So that's almost 4 weeks but again....no financial aid information as yet. I also checked canelink and there has been no update as well.

I think I am going to give up my spot. Not sure how much I like being kept in the dark about financial aid information.

Someone on the facebook group shared that financial aid packages won't be issued until mid-April, but I can't accept a position at the school without knowing the aid package! I'll call this week but just wanted to check-in here! Thanks so much! Hope everyone is well ?

Hi again, just received an email from Financial Aid. This is what it said:

Thank you for contacting the University of Miami. Accelerated Nursing students should start receiving their financial packages sometime around April/May. Unfortunately, we do not have an exact time.

OK, so if I am to understand this....first I was told that financial aid packages were to be released no later than end of February. Now I am being told "some time around April/May". Unacceptable for me big time. LOL. And I love how they do not have a goal to let us know when it will be released...."we do not have an exact time". No thanks.

Hello again ?

Okay! So just chatted with UM. They confirmed no financial aid package until mid-April. The person said to base our budgeting as if we'll be getting the max amount of federal available to us individually (check the federal aid website) then plan for covering the remainder of the balance ourselves (with our own money or private loans). For me, this is enough information to make my decision!

OK so it sounds like Mid April. Not too great that they will confirm packages only 4 weeks before school starts.

Hi, everyone!

I just got accepted into UM! I am super excited and wanted to know who else has received an admissions offer?

@queenrus I saw that when you applied you had a lot of prerequisites left. I’m applying for Spring 2022 and I’m in the same boat. Did it affect your application at all?

Hi nurse02022, initially it did affect my application because admissions put my application on hold because I had 4 prereqs pending. They said I couldn't have more than 3. So, once the term was over, I sent over my grade for 1 course......and then within 4 or so days of sending over that grade I got accepted.

Good luck. UM is a great program.

Thank you! What were your stats if you don’t mind me asking?

@queenrus also do you know if lab counts as separate pre req? I’m planning on taking Chemistry with chem lab but I wasn’t sure if they counted that as 1 prereq or 2

Not at all, I don't mind you asking.....Yes, for my prereqs.....4.0, cum GPA 3.83.

They count the Chem with lab as 1 pre req.

@queenrus thank you for helping me ?
