University of Miami FNP 2016

Hello! I am wondering if anyone has been admitted to the part time FNP program at UM. I applied this week & I am looking forward to hearing back from them in regards to my application. I would like to know how long to wait after submitting your application through Nursing CAS ? Any information regarding the admission process and the part time program in general would be greatly appreciated

Thank you!! The deposit to accept admission is due today 4/18 so I bet once they see how many accept/decline admission will facilitate how they move forward. Best of luck!!

Oh and I won't be working. I have a 3 year old and 15 month old. Full time school and full time mommy.

Does anyone know anything about the APP course we have to take? What does it involve or when it starts?

To those accepted for fall full time FNP or ACNP does anyone know if there is currently a cohort Facebook page yet? I couldn't find one. I just recently graduated from UM's Accelerated BSN program and our cohort utilized facebook page as well as a dropbox that we all had access to and it worked out great. If not, we can start one up! Congrats to those accepted, can't wait to get started!

From what I hear it is not advised to work during the full time. I can't see how one would be able to! I did the Accelerated BSN which was 12 months in length and barely had time to breathe :) Some DID work on the weekends and others had children as well and still managed but it's tough. I really loved the accelerated format though, for the BSN at UM, as I felt like I had no time to slack off or forget anything. Time management was what made it most challenging.. having multiple tests, projects, clinical work and clinical days per week. We are nurses though, is there anything we can't do? ;)

I was told when I asked about this that we would be notified via our UM email for updates about the APP course and orientation/ other info. I haven't seen anything new just yet. I believe it is a patho/pharm refresher course and should be starting soon. I remember hearing it wasn't too bad!

Hi everybody,

I am thinking of applying to FNP programs next year. I am wondering what is the GPA that most schools (specifically UM) look for. What GPA's did you guys get in with if you don't mind me asking?

I would say it is less about your GPA -as long as you are above a 3.0 (my BSN gpa wasn't too far from there) and more about how early you apply and how well you interview. The faculty is great. Down to earth, highly educated and well respected. I loved all of my teachers I had during my BSN and several are teaching NP courses too. They are interested in a diverse class and I know they do receive more applications for the part time program so keep that in mind. They get that a GPA alone doesn't make up the whole picture and value experience and diversity, among other factors. For family RN experience isn't required (but encouraged), but for acute care, one year is required. Also UM is one of the few schools that accelerates their NP programs (full time is 12 months, part time 18 months) and by most measures from other schools, you can even consider 18 months accelerated! However the students I know graduate prepared, pass boards, and become great practitioners. UM holds their standards very high, but I think the students get this going in! Good luck with your application!

Chris- which program are you in?

Hey Medicrn25,

I'm FNP, are you acute care? We will all take some lecture courses together (fnp and acnp students).

Yea. I'm doing ACNP

i like the group idea where we can all stay connected. Anyone know how to do that?

Awesome!

I can start a facebook group for UM Fall 16' NP students or a whatsapp group. It was very useful for us to share study guides, ask questions, post resources, reminders about deadlines and things due etc. What do you think?
