University of Hawaii-MEPN PROGRAM...anyone heard about it?

Published

I'm applying for UH MEPN program for Fall 2009. Has anyone heard about the program? It's fairly new but I just want to know what I'm getting myself into...lol. I know overall, nursing school is tough but would like some feedback on the MEPN program itself.

Thanks!

I'm also interested in this information! Planning to apply for the Fall 2011 year, I live in Boston. Thanks for any information :)

Hello,

I will be applying for fall 2011 also... I was accepted last year but turned it down to attend a program closer to home but it was really poorly run so I am back in the application process once again!!

Hopefully I can get accepted again!

quick question to those applying for fall 2011-

on the grad app, under where we select "nursing-ms", there is a drop-down menu to select for the specialization. At the top of the page it says that this program allows us to enter our specialization. however, I do not see any choices to select in the drop down menu. Was anyone else able to select their intended area of concentration?

thanks!

I am having that same problem. I tried to call admissions today, but no one picked up so hopefully they get back to me. Let me know if you are able to figure it out or here from anyone about it. Thanks!

does anyone know what they mean by "we would expect you to cite some references in relation to the profession and the rationale for Master's preparation" when giving the instructions for the goal statement?? Are we supposed to be researching something?

Hi Nikki,

The way I'm interpreting it is that they want us to provide some references to support the "why" of our essays.

For example, if you were discussing why you wanted to become a nurse/NP, say, because you enjoy the role of the nurse as an educator, and you understand the importance of teaching people how to manage their chronic disease, then you may want to cite a study that shows the effectiveness of education on chronic disease management.

Here's the abstract ot a great article that supports my example: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17170648

Hope that makes things seem a bit clearer. This is the way I'm interpreting it at least!

thanks for the advice. unfortunately, everyone is/has been on vacation since december 16 and isn't returning until jan 3rd.... kind of disappointing given the deadline, but oh well.

i know online, it says that the deadline is january 2nd and they say they'll be in the office on the deadline date, but, the 2nd is a sunday... do you think january 2nd referred to last year, and this year it is the 3rd (Monday)?

Hey Nikki,

The automated e-mails I keep receiving (the ones which provide the checklist of stuff you've submitted / stuff they're still missing from you) says this:

DEADLINE FOR ALL PAPERWORK TO BE RECEIVED IS JANUARY 2 (if the deadline is a weekend/holiday, we will accept paperwork the next business day)

Thank goodness. I am having a courier service in Hawaii deliver my goal statement early tomorrow A.M. (I'm in the mainland - Boston - and didn't want to take a chance with FedEx. I guess I probably should have done my essay earlier. Heh.)

hey! i haven;t received any automated responses... weird... i wonder why. can you go online using your ID number assigned to you after submitting the first part of the application? Yea, I'm on Mainland USA too. I sent mine from California on the 30th overnight delivery.

Just received confirmation that the courier has dropped off the rest of my app materials. PHEW! FINALLY!

Now I guess we just chill till we find out in March, no?

Are you applying to other programs, Nikki?

Yep! I'm applying to Vanderbilt, Yale (interview on 1/20), Duke (interview 1/28), MGH, Boston College, Northeastern, Columbia, URochester, and Emory... All for direct entry PNP. What about you?
