Hello,

Recently I have been granted acceptance into the University of Cincinnati Distance Learning Family Nurse Practitioner Program for the Summer of 2015.

I am aware there are various threads but I have not seen any real recent ones and I believe changes can occur yearly and would like to hear more feedback before fully committing.

I'm 21, a full time RN who does not plan on working pt. time, and in Summer 2015 I will start my first semester at U of Cinci (I already have completed a doctoral level stats course so I am able to bypass that class the first semester).. Anyways for those who are currently in the courses OR recently graduated:

1.) did you feel the online classes were challenging enough to prepare you for clinical/work but not so challenging that they consumed every ounce of free time?

2.) how did you feel the school views students.. Student friendly? Did you feel lost/left in the dark? Ect...

3.) my BIGGEST issue.. FINDING my own clinical preceptor while paying the school.. is there any type of assistance? has anyone NOT found a preceptor? advice on successfully landing a preceptor? ALSO.. do you need three new preceptors for the three clinical blocks??

PLEASE enlightened me with your pros and cons. I love to hear both sides before making such commitment. (this thread isn't limited to FNP majors only.. any distance learning student's advice will be appreciated)

I applied for fall as well....what was your timeline of paying the $65 app fee to hearing if you were accepted?

About 5 days

Congrats to you all!!! Hoping to attend UC for FNP next year...possibly spring or summer. I'm worried a BSN from and their 3.0 GPA may hurt my chances though. I have a few questions. Letters of recommendations: Any requirements for those? Direct supervisors? Have to be Doctors or MSNs? Preceptors: Can you use the same one and can they be either NP or MD?

Specializes in Internal Medicine.

I'm currently set to start my 3rd semester in their AGNP program. So, the first year all of the specialties are in courses together while you take the 3Ps. This program is online, but it is rigorous. Be prepared, but it is doable. Biostatistics was actually easy, the Adv Patho Phys almost killed us all, it was just a lot of info and very in depth. Every professor has a different set up, so in one class you may have 5 exams while in the other you just have 2, but the midterm and finals are always proctors and no exams are ever allowed to be open note. Best of luck!

Hello!

If you are worried about your GPA just write a stellar essay and have phenomenal letters of recommendation. Those outweigh the GPA. I had one from the medical director of my unit, my unit director who has her MSN, and another program director I worked with who happened to be an NP and UofC grad. There is no set requirement on where the recommendations come from. Your preceptors can be an NP or MD, just not an PA. And you can use the same preceptor twice if it's in your exact specialty. Meaning you can do 2 semesters in an actual family practice office or I can do 2 semesters in an Internal Medicine practice since my focus is primary care. Best of luck!

Specializes in Operating Room, labor and delivery.

Hi,

I applied for Fall 2018. I also graduated from ! Once I hear from them I will let you know. I had 5 references, nurse manager, charge nurse, mentor from WGU, and two co-workers.

Hi,

I attended for my BSN! I found out today that I have been accepted to the WHNP program. Your chances are good!

Hi everyone!

I am currenlty researching different online NP programs for AGPCNP and University of Cincinnati is my top choice. Any words of advice or feedback on their program? I would love to hear from current students on how it’s going and from former students on their experience. Thanks in advance!
