University of Cincinnati Online FNP Program

Nursing Students NP Students

I am considering entering the online FNP program at the University of Cincinnati. I have a few questions about the program and I am wondering if there are any current UC students or alumni that can provide me with some feedback on the design and rigor of the program.

Thanks for the info, that helps to clear up my questions about the cost. UC is too expensive overall for my budget.

In the research I have done on various online programs , quite a few of them charge instate tuition for their online NP programs. The costs of the 4 schools I am interested in range from $320 to $475 per credit hour, including online/distance learning fees with 38-42 credits required for the FNP programs.

I want to pay out of pocket so I am very cost conscious, of course I also want a quality, accredited program. I will be going part time.

I wish you all the best as you complete your studies, congratulations on working towards your goal. UC has an excellent reputation. It looks like you made a choice that works for you and going part time certainly helps to make the costs bearable, as well.

Take care and thank you again for the information.

rmicu,

I also looked at University of Cincinnati for Psych NP and found it too cost prohibitive. Have you looked at University of South Alabama? I'm enrolled there now. I'm paying approx $344 per credit hour for 48 or so credit hours. Much more reasonable IMO. (I'm in FNP). Good luck.

What four schools are you looking at?

Thanks for your time.

JKPowell,

Thanks for the info on University of South Alabama. It looks like the ideal school, especially in terms of cost.

The list of contracted preceptors on its website include hospitals in my state, this is another plus.

I plan to begin the FNP in Fall 2011.

How are you finding the program at USA? How many semesters have you completed so far? I am so excited for you, I am nervous and excited to start my studies for FNP .

I have also received good info about the program at Indiana State University from a cformer classmate who is a current student at ISU.

Both of these schools are on my list of 4 schools that I will apply to for next year.

rmicu,

I've been at USA since last fall, but this will be my first semester of clinicals (I was in part time, and have taken 2 classes each semester including summer). I'd say that the classes were challenging and fast paced, but manageable. Of course, like any online learning, it's a lot of self teaching, paper writing, discussion threads, etc. As far as the clinical preceptors go, you can use them even if they are not on the list, but you have to get contracts signed, proof of , and curriculum vitae from them and have them approved. A lot of work, which is what I'm struggling with right now.

I have to get over feeling silly about asking for these professionals to help me. I don't know if brick and mortar schools help arrange clinicals for NP students, but if so, that would be my number one drawback to distance learning!

Good luck to you, I hope you find the right path!

Thank you .

Don't feel too self-conscious about setting up the clinicals.

Just remember, each health care professional you request as a preceptor was once a preceptee---so they understand the importance of our clinicals.

I have heard that clinicals are arranged by most schools when you attend on-campus but, arranging my own clinicals is the trade off since I can't physically travel to a campus a few nights a week.

Based on your input, it looks like I should start talking w/ potential preceptors at the beginning of the first semester in order to have everything arranged in time for the start of my clinicals.

A thousand thank yous!!!!

I wish you all the best in your studies.

I applied to the Adult Psych NP program for the Autumn (September) 2011 at UC. Awaiting to hear back.

Update: I was just accepted to the UC Psych NP program that starts in Jan. 2012! I applied for the autumn session of 2011 but it was full. I am more than happy w/this though. Can't wait to start!!!!

JFitton86: Hi there! I'm desperately trying to find someone who is currently in the UC MSN program. I"ll be starting their online FNP this August, and wanted to gain some insight to how school and work will balance, along with the preceptor challenge. Any help will greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

I graduated from UC this year and the program was excellent. I went for Adult NP. Highly recommend.

Hello

I graduated in March and I am actually heading up there this weekend to walk for graduation.

I made it through the 2 year program with great support of my family. I am a mother of 4, a wife and I work fulltime as the Director of Nursing for a 250 bed skilled and rehab facility. My plate was full but I made it through. You will do just fine. To get my clinicals in I had to work every weekend, so I worked 7 days a week for 3 months once. It can be done.

Great program and I highly recommend it.

If you don't mind...what ended up being total cost of your program?
