Hi! Just starting this thread for University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) MECN 2025. Good luck!

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted into the program!

To those who were denied admission this cycle, I see you. I know how painful and discouraging those letters can be. I actually applied to this program (and several others) a few cycles ago and was denied by every single one. It was crushing, but I want to share this with you as proof that rejection doesn't mean the end of the road. If this is truly your path, don't give up. Use this as fuel to commit even more strongly, refine your goals, and trust that you have the strength and expertise to get there. You are so meant to be here. I reapplied to all the schools that previously rejected me, plus a few others, and this time, I was accepted into every single program. It can happen for you too. Keep going, and know I'm cheering you on!

For those admitted, are you considering completing UC Berkeley Extension's Epidemiology (PB HLTH X186) instead of taking Nursing 50 at UCLA? I'm wondering if this is a common route, as I think June might be a bit too soon for me to move. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I'm looking into PB HLTH X186 at UC Berkeley Extension because it's cheap(er). I just wrote [MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME]  to ask if it's still an 'approved course' because it is only 2 semester units. I'll let you know what I find out. I think the UCLA Summer sessions are over $1,000, ugh. There is also one at UCSD Extension but it starts in April. That one is around $850.

For current MECN students, may I ask about the difficulty of the program in terms of getting good grades? Do you feel it's doable or pretty challenging to get an A in classes?

I took the Berkeley one last year because it was the cheapest option.

A's are doable, some classes are easier to get an A in than others. But also remember, grades are not everything. In terms of the program being manageable, it is. Faculty is there to help us not fail us.

Thank you for sharing that! I I just had a few questions—overall, how was the course? How was the workload? And did you feel like the lack of structure (if any) made it harder to stay on track? Sorry for all the questions! I just haven't been able to find much information about this course online and would love to hear about your experience.

In my opinion it wasn't easy because some of the stuff that was taught wouldn't necessarily be on the HW assignments or tests. If I remember, there are HW assignments assigned and I would have to look up stuff on YouTube to explain it better. Definitely didn't learn much from the class. The class in itself doesn't count to your nursing GPA so all you need to do is pass, but you will pass as long as you use your resources online LOL

Hahahaha oh gosh, sounds like a blast! Thanks for sharing. I read somewhere from a 2019 blog post that you have to go to a testing center to complete the tests? Is this something you had to do?

No it was completely online! I would check when registering to see if it does say online. The lectures were recordings so it was asynchronous. I believe we had access to everything and we completed it as quickly or slowly as we wanted to as long as we finished by a certain deadline. I never had to do that.

Oh perfect! Looking at the website right now and it seems like it's fully online and asynchronous just like it was when you took it. Thank you so much, this was very helpful! 🙂

Also make sure y'all add a personal email on file when you make an account for the Berkeley extension program. That way they can send y'all your 1098T form for taxes next year.
