University of Arizona Fall 2020 BSN-DNP

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello!

I just got into the U of AZ Fall 2020 BSN to DNP program for pediatric primary care. I am starting this topic to see if anyone who has attended this program could give me some more information? How did it go with the online classes? Was it tough to find clinical sites? Did you work full time? Did you feel prepared to work as a nurse practitioner upon graduation, etc? Thanks so much for any information!

I also applied for the PNP specialty for this fall. I received an email saying the nursing school is sending a recommendation for admission to the graduate college, but have not yet received the official acceptance. Have you?

I was accepted for the acute care DNP! I'm interested to know about the clinical sites as well. The school website makes it seem as though students are very independent with finding clinical sites, so I'm hoping there are school resources!

CONGRATS everyone for being accepted ? ? Anyone applying for PMHNP (BSN-DNP)?

I am currently in the PNP program. If you are in the Tucson or Phoenix area, the program will set you up with a site, but I have heard from students who use those sites that they are not the best experiences. If you are out of state, you are completely on your own finding sites. They may give you a few leads but it’s up to you to call and find a preceptor. They give you absolutely zero resources. So start early and if you have contacts, even better. Start early and get those places contracted with the school. The first year I worked full time but once I started clinicals I had to go part time. It’s not feasible to work full time and go school. Get to know the other students in your cohort because that’s who is going to help you the most throughout this program. Hope that was helpful and good luck in the program!

Hello! CONGRATS on being admitted into the UA DNP Program! I am applying and was wondering how your application process was! How many years of experience did you have before applying? Did you have extracurricular?

Thank you! Any input is appreciated.

I found the application process really simple and straight forward. There’s a few essay questions, a video submission, and 2 recommendations. It was however pricey—fee for UA’s app, and nursingcas as well. I didn’t have any experience at the time of the application, I applied right around the time I was graduating nursing school. However I’d have about 6 months by the time I started the program. Which I do right now, in the NICU. I actually chose to defer my enrollment for next year, but I’m excited to start! Good luck to you?

Thank you for such a quick response! I am filling out the application and I noticed that it asks for extracurricular and various memberships. I graduated in May 2020 and unfortunately do not have any other extracurricular or other memberships. I am a little worried that this will put me at a disadvantage. I am currently working and am hoping to get into the fall 2021 cohort (I would have one year of experience). Please let me know your thoughts! I greatly appreciate it.

I didn’t have any either. However I did join ANA, I’d recommend at least joining that one. And if you’re interested, maybe one for your specialty. You can always get involved in projects or committees on your unit, I’m sure there’s plenty. Ask your nurse educator about it. You have some time to do that, since your app isn’t due until Dec. Also I’m not sure if your hospital requires a nurse residency program, but if they do, the program usually involves completing a research project. You can definitely put that on your application.

Thank you so much for your advice! I am currently in a nurse residency program and will reach out to my nursing educator for additional opportunities. I really appreciate your help!

Hey! I am about to graduate in December with my BSN. I live in Arizona, and being in NICU is my passion!! Did you get a NICU position right after graduation? If you could message me (if you're willing to answer some questions) that would be so amazing! Totally understand if not though. Thank you! :)

Have you found that most people continue to work full time during the first year? I am hoping to enter the 3.5 year part time program, but don't know if I should only work part time or if I can pull of working full time. Any info you may have regarding this would be super helpful!
