You will probably be asked what are your strengths and weaknesses. What's your management style? What would make you a good UM? Why do you want to work here? What would you do if.....? Do you have experience dealing with the DPH? How do you handle irate family members?
You might want to leave out asking about salary during the first interview. I had one candidate ask me on the phone and her first interview question to me was how much vacation? Salaries vary,of course, depending on experience and region of the country. My nurse managers are all making at least $35/hr, but they've been nurses for a long time.
I'm in the process of interviewing UM candidates. I've received 5 resumes...only one nurse has any experience at all in long term care. Just take your time before you answer so you don't get flustered. And if they DO ask what one of your weaknesses is, I'd recommend you NOT answer chocolate cake. Yes, that was one of the answers I got when I asked one of the applicants that question!

hi- i have an interview for a unit manager position in a LTC/sub-acute facility, and was wondering what type of interview questions to expect. What kind of questions to ask, and what a salary range would be. I have always worked 3-11, so even though i've worked in LTC, we didn't do any MDS or PRIs,so I don't really know too much about that. Any help would be appreciated. i am in NY state (great lakes area), if that helps. Thanks so much.:)
