Can someone either point me in the right direction to a website or give me some info.
Why are they useful?
How do you join (do they take new grads etc)
How do you know a hospital has one.
Any help would be great.

If you do a search on this website, you will find tons of discussions. NY seems to have a large union and jt's posts deal with a lot of union issues. Usually, if you are looking at a hospital's job board, it will say that the nursing positions are unionized (you will see something like "Pay in accordance with collective agreement" or "bargaining association" mentioned). Usually all the nurses are unionized in one hospital and being hired there is conditional on joining the union.

If you start working at a hospital that has one..you won't have to look for them they will come to you. I have worked both in union jobs and nonunion jobs there are perks and downfalls to both...Erin

lots of info is here on the nursing activism/politics section. Heres a link to one informative thread:
Spotlight On Union RNs
https://allnurses.com/t48207.html
Search thru the pages on this website & youll find a lot of discussion.
You dont join a labor union by yourself. You join as a group in the workplace. Or you take a job in a facility where the group already has unionized the workplace. To find out if a facility is unionized, just ask.
The website for the national RN-only union is http://www.UANnurse.org
More info about collective bargaining/unionizing for RNs is at
